Unlabelled: We evaluated the temporal relationship between chemotherapy-induced changes in tumor glucose use and tumor size.
Methods: Twenty patients with adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG) were studied by 18F-FDG PET and CT scans before neoadjuvant chemotherapy, 14 d after the initiation of therapy, and 4 wk after the completion of therapy.
Results: The relative change in 18F-FDG uptake was more than 2 times larger than the decrease in tumor size at all time points (P<0.01). At 14 d after the initiation of chemotherapy, there was no correlation between the reduction in 18F-FDG uptake and tumor wall thickness. The change in 18F-FDG uptake after 14 d of therapy was significantly correlated with the reduction in tumor size after the completion of therapy.
Conclusion: In AEG, changes in tumor metabolism are a more sensitive parameter for assessing the effects of chemotherapy than are changes in tumor size. Early changes in metabolic activity predict the subsequent reduction in tumor size.

We aim to compare the clinical outcomes of radical nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff removal (RNU) and segmental resection with ureteral reimplantation (RR) in Chinese patients with distal ureteral urothelial carcinoma. A retrospective analysis of medical records was performed for 922 patients found to have distal ureteral cancer, defined as below the level of the iliac vessels, with 747 patients who underwent RNU and 175 who underwent RR included in the final analysis. The primary endpoints included clinical outcomes and changes in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).

Disordered regions are an important functional feature of many multidomain proteins. A prime example is proteins in membraneless organelles, which contain folded domains that engage in specific interactions and disordered low-complexity (LC) domains that mediate liquid-liquid phase separation. Studying these complex architectures remains challenging due to their conformational variability.

Intussusception in adults is a rare condition often associated with a pathological lead point, which is frequently malignant but can occasionally be benign, such as colonic lipomas. We report the case of a 60-year-old male who presented with colicky abdominal pain, and a computed tomography (CT) revealed a colo-colic intussusception caused by a 6 cm lipoma in the transverse colon, accompanied by ischemic changes in the colonic mucosa. The patient underwent a right hemicolectomy, and histopathology confirmed the benign nature of the lesion.

Background: The social problems caused by depressive disorders and psychological behaviors in women are increasingly prominent, with extreme incidents occurring from time to time. Therefore, the issue concerning "how to prevent and resolve the risk of depression in women" is gaining significant attention across various sectors. However, previous studies have largely focused on teenage girls, perimenopausal women, or women during pregnancy and the postpartum period, neglecting the adverse effects of major diseases, which is detrimental to enhancing the psychological well-being of women with cancer.

Due to uncontrolled cell proliferation and disrupted vascularization, many cancer cells in solid tumors have limited oxygen supply. The hypoxic microenvironments of tumors lead to metabolic reprogramming of cancer cells, contributing to therapy resistance and metastasis. To identify better targets for the effective removal of hypoxia-adaptive cancer cells, it is crucial to understand how cancer cells alter their metabolism in hypoxic conditions.
