Developmental defects of enamel and dentin are frequently observed in the pediatric dental clinic. Proper diagnosis may improve the clinician's dental care. The importance of prevention is emphasized as well as the proper management of a growing child from both dental and psychological aspects. This article presents the clinical management of some common dental defects: hypoplasia, diffuse and demarcated opacities, amelogenesis imperfecta and dentinogenesis imperfecta.

Anencephaly, the most severe type of neural tube defects (NTDs) in humans, occurs between the third and fourth gestational weeks (GW), involves the cranial part of the NT and results in the absence of the forebrain and skull. Our previous studies indicate that NFI-C is essential for tooth root development and endochondral ossification. However, its exact role in calvarial intramembranous bone formation remains unclear. In this study, we demonstrate that the disruption of the gene leads to defects in intramembranous bone formation, characterized by decreased osteogenic proliferative activity and reduced osteoblast differentiation during postnatal osteogenesis.
