Objective: To investigate the change of retinal image magnification and its relationship to post-operative best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after implanting phakic anterior chamber intraocular lens for extreme high myopia.
Methods: 30 eyes in 23 patients with -15.13 to -29.00 Diopter (D) of myopia were implanted. The magnification change of retinal image was calculated with ZEMAX software. The relationship among myopic diopter, magnification change, BCVA, and post-operative BCVA improvement were analyzed.
Results: The post-operative BCVA improved by 1 or more lines in 28 of 30 eyes (93%) at 3 months. 2 eyes (7%) no change of BCVA. There was positive correlations between myopic diopter and magnification change (r = 0.996, P < 0.01), and magnification change and post-operative BCVA improvement (r = 0.42, P = 0.02). There was negative correlations between myopic diopter and pro-operative BCVA (r = -0.62, P < 0.01), and post-operative BCVA (r = -0.57, P < 0.01).
Conclusion: Magnification change was one of reason for post-BCVA improvement. There is a positive correlation between Magnification change and post-BCVA improvement.

Minimal change disease (MCD) accounts for 10 - 15% of idiopathic nephrotic syndromes in adults. Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is rarely ascribed as a cause of MCD and was previously associated with interferon-based therapy. MCD in treatment-naïve chronic HCV infection is extremely rare, with only 3 cases reported in the literature.

Introduction: Biofilms may show varying adherence strengths to dentine. This study quantified the shear force required for the detachment of multispecies biofilm from the dentine using fluid dynamic gauging (FDG) and computation fluid dynamics (CFD). To date this force has not been quantified.

Mitochondria play a crucial role in maintaining cellular health. It is interesting that the shape of mitochondria can vary depending on the type of cell, mitochondrial function, and other cellular conditions. However, there are limited studies that link functional assessment with mitochondrial morphology evaluation at high magnification, even fewer that do so in situ and none in human muscle biopsies.

There is an urgent need for stable, plant-based Pickering foams to address the growing consumer demand for sustainable, low-calorie, aerated sweet foods. This study employed a cold plasma-assisted deamidation and glycosylation (CPDG) approach to promote hydrophilic reassembly of zein, resulting in the formation of sugar derivative-zein conjugates. This was accomplished by coupling deamidated zein with polyhydroxy sugars including sucralose (Suc), maltitol (Mal), mannitol (Man), and stevioside (Ste).

Introduction: In the forensic field, having accurate understanding of the macroscopic and microscopic alterations that occur in teeth when exposed to temperatures has remarkable significance. The preservation of delicate incinerated teeth is crucial in fire investigations that pertain to the temperature exposed, as well as the identification of victims. This preservation is necessary in order to conduct macroscopic and microscopic ultra-structural examinations, which provide valuable insights into the structural alterations that dental tissues undergo when exposed to low to high temperatures.
