A new biflavonoid masazinoflavanone (1) and the isobiflavonoid calodenone (2) have been isolated and characterized from the methanolic aerial part extract of the plant Rhus tripartitum. Their structures have been deduced from extensive spectral analysis (NMR and MS). Interpretation of the nuclear overhauser effects (NOESY) permitted us to establish relative stereochemistry of these natural products.

The extraction of condensed tannins from Aleppo pine bark and sumac roots () was examined in near industrial conditions, using a water medium in the presence of 2% NaHCO and 0.5% NaHSO at two different temperatures (70 °C and at 100 °C). The tannins extracts were recovered in high yields (~25% of Aleppo pine and ~30% for sumac) with high phenolic contents (>75%).

Rhus species are known in traditional medicine for their therapeutic virtue and their extracts showed numerous important properties including antimalarial, antimicrobial, antiviral, and hypoglycemic and anticonvulsant activities. Rhus tripartitum (Ucria) is a medicinal plant widely used in Tunisia folk medicine against chronic diarrhea and gastric ulcer. This study was designed to examine and antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of four extracts of Rhus tripartitum root cortex with increasing solvent polarity (hexane, dichloromethane, methanol and water).

Polyphenols, flavonoids and condensed tannins contents, as well as the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic and aqueous extracts obtained from aerial parts of 10 wild Tunisian plants, have been determined. Extracts showed appreciable levels of polyphenols and flavonoids, which reached 215.16 mg GAE g DW in Lavandula stoechas ethanolic extract, and 49.

The phytochemical content (total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids, condensed tannins and phenolic composition) and the antioxidant potential of Rhus tripartitum fruits collected from different localities were screened during maturity. Significant variability was detected. HPLC analyses revealed the presence of 24 compounds with notable differences.
