The identification of brown adipose tissue (BAT) as a thermogenic organ in human adults approximately 20 years ago raised the exciting possibility of activating this tissue as a new treatment for obesity and cardiometabolic disease. [18F]Fluoro-2-deoxyglucose (18F-FDG) combined positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PET/CT) scanning is the most commonly used imaging modality to detect and quantify human BAT activity in vivo. This technique exploits the substantial glucose uptake by BAT during thermogenesis as a marker for BAT metabolism.

There has been a recent rise in the use of implantable cardiac devices, mostly valves but also electronic ones, such as pacemakers, and implantable defibrillators. The increasing use of these devices had as a consequence the raised incidence of endocarditis, an infrequent but morbid complication of these procedures. Thus, early diagnosis of the implantable cardiac devices related infection and endocarditis became pivotal for appropriate management.

Background: Clinical diagnosis of Alzheimer disease (AD) is only 70% accurate. Reduced cerebral blood flow (CBF) and metabolism in parieto-temporal and posterior cingulate cortex may assist diagnosis. While widely accepted that F-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomography ( F-FDG PET) has superior accuracy to CBF-SPECT for AD, there are very limited head-to-head data from clinically relevant populations and these studies relied on clinical diagnosis as the reference standard.

Background: Despite frequent PTEN (phosphatase and tensin homologue) loss and Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling in prostate cancer, the disease is insensitive to single-agent mTOR inhibition. Insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor inhibition might mitigate the feedback inhibition by Torc1 inhibitors, suppressing downstream Akt activation and, thus, potentiating the antitumor activity of mTOR inhibition.

Patients And Methods: In the present phase I study, patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer received 6 mg/kg cixutumumab and 25 mg temsirolimus intravenously each week.

[18F]fluoro‑2‑deoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)‑computed tomography (CT) is a functional imaging modality based on glucose metabolism. The association between the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) from 18F‑FDG PET‑CT scanning and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status has, to the best of our knowledge, not previously been fully elucidated, and the potential mechanisms by which EGFR mutations alter FDG uptake are largely unknown. A total of 157 patients who were pathologically diagnosed with non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who underwent EGFR mutation testing and PET‑CT pretreatment between June 2015 and October 2017 were retrospectively analyzed.
