Background/objectives: Facial bone density, including the jawbone, declines earlier than that of the lumbar spine and calcaneus. Calcium maltobionate is reported to mitigate bone resorption and maintain bone density of the lumbar spine in post-menopausal women, but its effects on facial bone density remain understudied. Therefore, this study compared variations in facial bone mineral density with variations in calcaneal bone mineral density and bone resorption markers among healthy women, examining differences between pre- and post-menopause and the effects of continuous calcium maltobionate intake.

Background: The standard approach for addressing intra-articular calcaneal fractures involves open reduction with plate and screw fixation, with ongoing discourse regarding the application of grafts to address bone gaps. The aim of this study is the temporal comparison of the radiological and functional outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for intra-articular calcaneal fractures, with a specific focus on the use of bone grafts.

Methods: Thirty patients, comprising 13 with iliac grafts and 17 without, were enrolled in the study.

Background: In the case of end-stage hallux rigidus, first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint arthrodesis is the gold-standard and is traditionally performed via an open approach. However, complications such as nonunion have been reported to be as high as 30%. Recently, there have been reports demonstrating a percutaneous approach to be effective and safe.

Background Haglund's syndrome, a common cause of pain in the posterior heel that consists of painful swelling of the local soft tissues and prominence of the posterosuperior calcaneal projection, presents significant challenges in treatment, particularly when conservative management fails. This study evaluates the functional outcomes following oblique partial excision of the posterosuperior portion (calcaneal tuberosity osteotomy) of the calcaneus for Haglund's syndrome. Methods A cohort of 30 patients, aged 18 years and older, with persistent heel pain unresponsive to conservative treatments, underwent partial osteotomy using a medial or lateral approach.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disorder marked by pain, inflammation, and discomfort in the synovial joints. It is critical to understand the pathological mechanisms of RA progression. MicroRNA-378 (miR-378) is highly expressed in the synovium of RA patients and positively correlated with disease severity, but its function and underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood.
