Highly mutated HIV-1 protease (PR) compromises the efficacy of lopinavir (LPV) and darunavir (DRV) used to formulate salvage regimens in HIV/AIDS management. Here, we report the kinetics of inhibition of lopinavir (LPV) and darunavir (DRV) on highly mutated South African HIV-1 subtype C PR obtained from clinical isolates. The wild-type and mutant South African HIV-1 subtype C PR were cloned and purified.

Using the self-consistent field approach, we studied the salt-controlled vertical segregation of mixed polymer brushes immersed into a selective solvent. We considered brushes containing two types of chains: polyelectrolyte (charged) chains and neutral chains. The hydrophobicity of both types of chains is characterized by the Flory-Huggins parameters χC and χN, respectively.

Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases 1 and 2 (PARP1 and PARP2) play a key role in DNA repair. As major sensors of DNA damage, they are activated to produce poly(ADP-ribose). PARP1/PARP2 inhibitors have emerged as effective drugs for the treatment of cancers with BRCA deficiencies.

Hypothesis: Low-frequency Raman (LFR) spectroscopy is proposed as a novel non-destructive methodology to probe pH-related phase transitions in self-assembled lipid particles. In this case, dispersed lipid mesophases were composed of ionisable oleic acid (OA) or nicergoline (NG) in monoolein (MO). The sensitivity of LFR spectroscopy to low-energy intermolecular vibrations was hypothesised to be due to structural transformation in ionisable dispersed mesophases upon changes in pH.
