In a recent issue of the Journal of Trauma, Kim et al. described their experience with the esophageal Doppler monitor (EDM) in major burn patients. Other authors have reported the historical development of the EDM, reviewed the technical and scientific aspects of this modality, and compared the EDM with the pulmonary arterial catheter (PAC). However, most studies exclude the bedside, practical aspects of EDM placement and use. We retrospectively reviewed our EDM utilization over the past 27 months, with emphasis on the practical aspects of its use, potential indications, and contraindications. The purpose of this paper is to share our EDM experience with the reader.

Discrete FIR filter-based Control.

ISA Trans

January 2025

Departamento de Ingeniería Eléctrica, CINVESTAV, CDMX, Mexico. Electronic address:

In control system design, managing measurement noise is a critical challenge, requiring a balance between responsiveness and noise suppression. Traditional methods often involve trade-offs, compromising either aspect. This paper proposes a novel solution by integrating a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter within the discrete controller transfer function, coupled with disturbance rejection through the Internal Model Principle (IMP).

Background: Recently, environmental pollution has become a significant concern for human, animal, and environmental health, fitting within the "One Health" framework. Among the various environmental contaminants, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) have gathered substantial attention due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, and adverse health effects. This study aimed to compare the levels of 12 PFASs in the fur, liver, and muscle of wild roe deer to evaluate the feasibility of using fur as a non-invasive biomonitoring matrix.

Introduction: The non-thermal plasma (NTP) technique has been suggested as a sustainable horticultural practice to promote biomass accumulation, nutrient uptake, N metabolism, and disease prevention in plants. In particular, the potentiality of this technique to promote the natural accumulation of nutrients into plants deserve to be explored as input saving is strongly recommended in the horticultural sector.

Methods: The nutrient solution supplied to a red coloured variety of rocket salad [ (L.
