Background: Previously, we reported the efficacy of Lichtena--a phytocosmetic cream product--in atopic dermatitis (AD). Later, fraudulent triamcinolone acetonide (TACA) was detected at low doses (16-40 microg/g) in Lichtena. This suggested that TACA may be effective at much lower concentrations than used in commercial products (1,000 microg/g).

Objectives: To investigate the efficacy in AD of low-dose TACA in Lichtena compared to plain Lichtena.

Methods: Fourteen patients presenting symmetrical lesions of AD were treated for 1 month with Lichtena plus 25 microg/g TACA (= verum) and plain Lichtena (= placebo). The severity of the lesions was assessed by the Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) on days 0 (= baseline), 7, 14 and 28.

Results: Already after 1 week of treatment, significant SCORAD differences to baseline were observed comparing verum- and placebo-treated areas. No improvement was observed using plain Lichtena.

Conclusions: TACA displayed a significant improvement of AD at doses up to 40 times lower than in commercial products.

Background: Atopic dermatitis is perhaps the most comprehensively studied skin disease in psychosomatic medicine and psychoneuroimmunology. Its biopsychosocial conceptualization incorporates psychodynamic as well as behavioral and systemic considerations. At the same time, there is also extensive biological knowledge of the neuroendocrine-immune control of barrier and immune function, characterized through animal experiments and translational clinical studies.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a recurrent and chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by a high lifetime prevalence and significant impairment of patients' quality of life, primarily due to intense itching and discomfort. However, current pharmacological interventions provide only moderate efficacy and are frequently accompanied by adverse side effects. The immune-pathogenesis of AD involves dysregulation of the Th2 immune response and exacerbation of inflammation related to excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Objective: To evaluate the use of collar-mounted accelerometers to objectively monitor treatment outcomes in canine pruritus.

Methods: Observational data from 1,803 dogs from 2019 through 2023 were retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the efficacy of collar-mounted accelerometers to assess treatment efficacy for pruritic canine skin diseases. Accelerometer measurements were joined to electronic health records to establish symptoms, diagnoses, and interventions.

[Psychological aspects in occupational dermatology].

The prevalence of psychological disorders in the general population and, therefore, in dermatological and allergological patients continues to increase. Psychodermatology as a branch of dermatology is also becoming ever more relevant in occupational dermatology. Psychological comorbidities and cofactors like depression and anxiety disorders or stress are increasingly important, which must be considered regarding diagnostics and therapy selection.
