Ureteral strictures in transplanted renal units are initially managed by balloon dilation and indwelling stents. When endourologic management fails, ureteroneocystostomy or pyeloureteral anastomosis to the native ureter is the treatment of choice. Nevertheless, such procedures are not always successful. We present what we believe to be the first two North American cases of silicone-polyester artificial ureters (pyelovesical bypass graft) after failed endourologic or open management of ureteral strictures after renal transplantation. After 12 and 15 months of follow-up, the renal function was stable, with no evidence of obstruction. Long-term follow-up is needed to monitor the rate of late encrustation and obstruction.

Background: Ureteral stents, such as double-J stents, have become indispensable in urologic procedures but are associated with complications like hematuria and pain. While the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has led to its increasing application in the health sector, AI has not been used to provide information on potential complications and to facilitate subsequent measures in the event of such complications.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of an AI-based prediction tool in providing patients with information about potential complications from ureteroscopy and ureteric stent placement and indicating the need for early additional therapy.

Urethrovaginal fistulas are rare complications often arising from urethrovaginal injuries commonly due to obstetrical trauma, urethral surgeries, pelvic fractures, or neoplastic treatments. Here, we present a unique case involving a 23-year-old female patient with a large urethrovaginal fistula and complete anterior vaginal wall sloughing following prolonged obstructed labor. Nine months post-cesarean, she reported urine leakage via the vagina upon catheter removal, which intensified in an erect posture.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a prevalent global health issue, primarily caused by glomerular dysfunction, diabetes, endovascular disorders, hypertensive nephrosclerosis, and other vascular diseases. Despite the increase in available organ sources, significant challenges remain in securing organ compatibility, prompting extensive research into creating a bio-artificial kidney free from immune rejection. In this study, a bio-engineered kidney was established using a stem cell chemoattractant within a bioreactor system; rBMSCs were used to recellularize the decellularized kidney scaffold coated with SDF-1α/AKI-CKD cytokine juice under mimic-hypoxic conditions as these chemokines and cytokines are crucial for the cell migration.

This device could solve the problem of «forgotten stent» often leading to long-term complications.
