Considering the significant health risks posed by hard chrome plating during its application, thermally sprayed CrC-NiCr cermet coatings represent a suitable alternative. Incorporating hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) as a dry lubricant into the feedstock powder can further enhance wear resistance and thermal conductivity, crucial for preventing premature failure caused by inadequate lubrication. In this study, the mass fraction of hBN was varied between 0 and 15 wt.

Nickel/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) composites are the most commonly used fuel electrodes for solid oxide cells. While microstructural changes of Ni/YSZ during operational conditions have been thoroughly investigated, there is limited knowledge regarding Ni/YSZ surface chemistry under working conditions. In this study, we examine the interaction between Ni/YSZ electrodes and water vapor under open circuit and polarization conditions, utilizing near ambient pressure soft and hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies.

We investigated the possibility of synthesizing Co nanoparticles in CoZrH/AlO(OH)/Al ceramic-metal catalysts and controlling the catalytic properties of these nanoparticles in syngas conversion by changing the Co/Zr ratio. The CoZr nanocomposites were obtained from metal powders by mechanochemical activation in a high-energy mill under an argon atmosphere, followed by treatment with hydrogen at high pressure and room temperature. Ceramic-metal catalysts were prepared by mixing the corresponding CoZrH powder nanocomposite (30 wt%) with powdered aluminum (70 wt%), hydrothermal treatment of the mixture and subsequent calcination.

The use of metal-coated ceramic powders not only effectively enhances the wettability of the metal-ceramic interface but also promotes a more uniform microstructure in Ti(C,N)-based cermets, which is advantageous for improving their mechanical properties. In this study, ultrafine Co- and Ni-coated (Ti,W,Mo,Ta)(C,N) powders were synthesized via the spray-drying-in-situ carbothermal reduction method. Subsequently, Ti(C,N)-based cermets were effectively fabricated using the as-prepared ultrafine Co- and Ni-coated (Ti,W,Mo,Ta)(C,N) powders.
