Introduction: During exercise, water loss frequently occurs in the intracellular spaces and there is a decrease in the plasmatic volume, with a blood concentration as a secondary characteristic. Plasmatic volume losses provoke a decrease in the blood flow, which directly affects cardiac function. Physical performance decreases and aerobic capacity deteriorates.

Material And Methods: An observational, prospective, longitudinal, and comparative study was carried out to evaluate gender influence and the aerobic capacity level upon hydration and the plasmatic volume produced by maximal physical exercise. Twenty four individuals between 18 and 35 years old were included. All participated in aerobic physical exercise and changes in hemoglobin, hematocrit, plasmatic volume, and hydration state were evaluated.

Results: Gender showed a significant influence on plasmatic volume but not on the hydration state. The aerobic capacity presented a relationship with plasmatic volume, and the plasmatic volume with the hydration state. Women presented more plasmatic volume loss than men (p < 0.05). Individuals who have adequate aerobic capacity tend to lose less plasmatic volume during exercise.

Conclusions: Maximal physical exercise during a short period also leads to important liquid loss; therefore, it is important that people who engage in exercise understand their liquid losses and re-hydrate themselves appropriately before, during, and after exercise.

Plasma miRNAs Correlate with Structural Brain and Cardiac Damage in Friedreich's Ataxia.

Department of Neurology, School of Medical Sciences, University of Campinas - UNICAMP, Rua Tessália Vieira de Camargo, 126. Cidade Universitária "Zeferino Vaz" Campinas, Campinas, SP, 13083-887, Brazil.

Friedreich's Ataxia (FRDA) is the most common autosomal recessive ataxia worldwide and is caused by biallelic unstable intronic GAA expansions at FXN. With its limited therapy and the recent approval of the first disease-modifying agent for FRDA, the search for biological markers is urgently needed to assist and ease the development of therapies. MiRNAs have emerged as promising biomarkers in various medical fields such as oncology, cardiology, epilepsy and neurology as well.

MicroRNA (miRNA) dysregulation is closely related to the occurrence and progression of medulloblastoma (MB). However, the full potential of serum circulating miRNAs in MB diagnosis is restricted by their ultralow abundance in peripheral blood due to blood-brain barrier. Here, we report the direct preamplification-free detection of aberrant expression of oncogenic miRNAs in serum from MB patients by proposing a simple yet robust single-molecule assay that combines iphasic andwich hybridization in nucleic acids and the dark-field ingle-article lasmonic maging (B2S2PI).

Parasitism involves diverse evolutionary strategies, including adaptations for blood feeding, which provides essential nutrients for growth and reproduction. (Polyopisthocotyla: Microcotylidae), an ectoparasitic flatworm, infects the gills of gilthead seabream (), significantly affecting fish health, welfare and Mediterranean cage farm profitability. Despite its impact, limited information exists on its feeding behaviour.

Introduction: New dialysis membranes with new properties are being developed to improve efficacy and tolerance. The hemocompatibility of a polymeric biomaterial is influenced by the layer of water at the blood membrane interface. The new dialyzer TORAY NV-U has a membrane Hydrolink™, designed to suppress platelet adhesion and to improve the hemocompatibility.

: Understanding the prognostic factors of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is essential for improving patient outcomes. The aim of this study was to establish the predictive role of plasmatic resistin and leptin on short-term mortality in adult patients with a first episode of AIS. : This study enrolled 277 patients who were consecutively hospitalized for AIS.
