We demonstrate Mach-Zehnder-type interferometry in a superconducting flux qubit. The qubit is a tunable artificial atom, the ground and excited states of which exhibit an avoided crossing. Strongly driving the qubit with harmonic excitation sweeps it through the avoided crossing two times per period. Because the induced Landau-Zener transitions act as coherent beamsplitters, the accumulated phase between transitions, which varies with microwave amplitude, results in quantum interference fringes for n = 1 to 20 photon transitions. The generalization of optical Mach-Zehnder interferometry, performed in qubit phase space, provides an alternative means to manipulate and characterize the qubit in the strongly driven regime.

This study investigates the optical, mechanical, and antimicrobial properties of polypropylene (PP) fibers enhanced with titanium dioxide (TiO) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. Using a Mach-Zehnder interferometric system, we examined the refractive indices, birefringence, and opto-mechanical behavior of blank PP, PP/TiO, and PP/ZnO nanocomposite fibers under various conditions, including different polarization orientations and during cold drawing processes. The 2D Fourier transform algorithm is employed to analyze interferometric data, enabling precise measurements of refractive index profiles and birefringence.

Significance: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) images are prone to image artifacts due to the birefringence of the sample or the optical system when a polarized light source is used for imaging. These artifacts can lead to degraded image quality and diagnostic information.
Aim: We aim to mitigate these birefringence-related artifacts in OCT images by adding a depolarizer module in the reference arm of the interferometer.

The statistical properties of the detection events constituting the interference fringes at the output of an interferometer are well-known. Nevertheless, there is still no unified view of what is happening to a quantum system inside an interferometer. Strong measurements of path operators destroy the interference effect.

A blood glucose concentration and temperature sensor with a balloon-shaped single-mode fiber (SMF) based on a core-offset structure is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The balloon-shaped SMF is created by offset-fusing a straight-line SMF between two other SMFs, thereby forming a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). The core-offset structure can effectively excite higher-order cladding modes.
