Elimination of domestic dust mites (Acariformes: Pyroglyphidae) from the premises is a significant factor of improving the quality of life in individuals with mite-borne sensitization. Some ways of reducing the number of domestic dust mites in the premises are considered.

Since late 2021, outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus have caused a record number of mortalities in wild birds, domestic poultry, and mammals in North America. Wetlands are plausible environmental reservoirs of avian influenza virus; however, the transmission and persistence of the virus in the aquatic environment are poorly understood. To explore environmental contamination with the avian influenza virus, a large-volume concentration method for detecting infectious avian influenza virus in waterbodies was developed.

Indoor dust contains various endocrine-disrupting contaminants, yet the effect drivers of observed glucocorticoid activity are completely unknown. This study conducted an effect-directed analysis using orthogonal fractionation to identify effect drivers of glucocorticoid activity in indoor dust. After the detection of bioactivity using a human cell line stably transfected with a reporter gene, the sample underwent parallel HPLC fractionations with octadecyl, pentafluorophenyl, and aminopropyl columns to obtain orthogonal fractions.

In recent years, there has been growing concern about the long-term health effects of chemical exposure in pets, particularly dogs and cats, from sources such as pet food and house dust. Domestic cats (Felis silvestris catus) and dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) are continuously exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), with particular attention being paid to the toxicity of their metabolites, hydroxylated PCBs (OH-PCBs) and methylsulfonyl PCBs (MeSO-PCBs). However, the tissue distribution and species-specific differences of these PCB metabolites in domestic animals have not been fully elucidated.

Smog, a combined form of atmospheric pollutants, dust, and smoke with fog under sunlight, poses a significant threat to human health and the environment by reducing visibility. Urban air pollution exposure can cause respiratory issues like asthma, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cardiovascular diseases like heart attacks, high blood pressure, lung cancer, and other health issues like diabetes, cognitive decline, and even birth defects. As smog has become a growing global issue with severe impacts on public health, ecosystems, and economies, this study analyzes its effects and identifies appropriate policies for its mitigation.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate (1) the microbial community composition by work characteristics and (2) the association between microbial genera level and inflammatory markers among recycling workers.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, inhalable dust was collected with personal samplers from 49 production (86 samples) and 10 administrative workers (15 samples). Four groups of micro-organisms were identified down to species-level (aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, and fungi grown at 25°C and 37°C).
