A 54-year-old woman was admitted with a result of high serum estradiol levels (> 4300 pg/ml) and typical postmenopausal symptoms. She had a history of an adnexectomy (normal histopathology) due to the elevated estradiol levels. After surgery, estradiol levels were as high as before.

Background: Cardiac troponin I (cTnI) is highly specific for myocardial damage and for the diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome. We investigated cTnI utility and predictive value in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) in the acute setting.
Method: We studied 354 consecutive patients with the primary diagnosis of AF and clinical symptoms suggestive of myocardial ischemia presenting to our emergency department.

Serum troponin is a useful laboratory study for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction. However, elevations can also be seen in a variety of other diseases processes. Falsely positive troponin values caused by interference with current troponin assays have been reported.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Perioperative myocardial infarction (MI) is an important risk factor for cardiac morbidity and mortality after hip surgery. On the basis of the limitations of creatine kinase cardiac muscle isoenzyme (CK-MB) in the perioperative setting, and the high specificity of troponin I, we hypothesized that troponin I would be effective at detecting perioperative MI more frequently than CK-MB would be, after hip surgery.
Methods: A prospective study of the serum levels of creatine phosphokinase (CPK), its isoenzyme CK-MB, and troponin I, in 90 patients with risk factors for coronary artery disease, undergoing hip surgery is reported.
