Human β-defensin (HBD) has been recognized as a promising antimicrobial agent due to its broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against various pathogens. In our previous work, we engineered a chimeric human β-defensin, designated H4, by fusing human β-defensin 3 and human β-defensin 4, resulting in enhanced antimicrobial activity and salt stability. However, the high cost of chemical synthesis due to the relatively large number of amino acids in H4 has limited its applications.

Introduction: The attachment a mother feels for her fetus intensifies her duty to care for it, leading to a heightened desire to engage in behaviors that promote health. This research explored the association between maternal-fetal attachment (MFA) and adherence to health-related behaviors among pregnant women.
Methods: This cross-sectional study focused on 220 pregnant women in Jahrom City, and was conducted using a multi-stage random sampling strategy.

Background: The global burden of HIV and AIDS continues to significantly impact public health, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. This study investigates the spatial distribution and associated risk factors of HIV prevalence in Botswana using data from the 2021 Botswana AIDS Impact Survey (BAIS V).
Methods: The analysis included 12,653 adults aged 15-64 years and employed chi-square tests, multilevel mixed-effects regression, and spatial analysis techniques.

Introduction: Data on the prevalence of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), characteristics of patients with HCM, and treatment patterns in Japan are limited. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of HCM and describe the patient characteristics, treatment patterns, and utilization of medical expense subsidies in Japan, using payer claims data from insurers.
Methods: This retrospective study of patients with HCM in Japan utilized payer claims data from insurers (Advanced Elderly Medical Service System [AEMSS], Kokuho, and Kempo) from January 1, 2017, to December 31, 2021.

Introduction: In recent years, machine learning (ML) methods have gained significant popularity among medical researchers interested in cancer. We aimed to test different (ML) models to predict both overall survival and survival at specific time points in patients with non-metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC).
Methods: The clinicopathological and treatment data of non-metastatic CRC patients with more than 10 years of follow-up at a single center were retrospectively reviewed.
