Background: Left ventricular (LV) dilatation and extensive scar portend a poor prognosis in heart failure (HF). The Revivent TC system (BioVentrix Inc) is used either during a hybrid transcatheter-surgical or a surgical-only procedure to exclude transmural scar and reduce LV dimensions.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the safety and efficacy of the Revivent TC® anchor system in patients with HF.

Background: Left ventricular (LV) volumes can be calculated from various linear, monoplane, and multiplane echocardiographic methods, and the same method can be applied to different imaging views. However, these methods and their variations have not been comprehensively evaluated against real-time 3-dimensional echocardiography (RT3D).

Hypothesis/objectives: To identify the LV volumetric approaches that produce the least bias and the best agreement with RT3D, and to assess interoperator reproducibility between an experienced and an inexperienced operator.

Retrospective analysis of clinical characteristics and treatment differences between severe and non-severe neonatal types of pneumonia with RSV infection.

Medicine (Baltimore)

January 2025

Precision Medical Center, Wuhan Childrens Hospital (Wuhan Maternal and Child Healthcare Hospital), Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, PR China.

Understanding the differences between children with severe and non-severe types of neonatal pneumonia is crucial for clinical treatment and disease management. In this study, we retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of infants with neonatal pneumonia diagnosed as respiratory syncytial virus infection at Wuhan Children's Hospital between December 1, 2022 and November 30, 2023. Further, the recruited subjects were categorized into severe and non-severe groups based on the severity score.

Perception of health and illness and quality of life after total thyroidectomy for differentiated thyroid carcinoma: the PERSAM study.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

January 2025

Unit of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Public Health, Department of Cardiac-Thoracic-Vascular Sciences and Public Health, University of Padova, Padua, Italy.

Background: Differentiated thyroid carcinoma is the most common endocrine neoplasm; several studies have shown that individuals perceive the disease as being more severe than it actually is, resulting in a reduced quality of life. The primary aim of this study is to assess the quality of life and perception of illness among patients admitted for radiometabolic therapy, post total thyroidectomy for differentiated thyroid carcinoma. The secondary aim is to identify which patient characteristics are associated with a lower quality of life in order to improve and personalize care.

As researchers increasingly utilize systems science simulation modeling (SSSM), little is known about how and by whom SSSMs are being leveraged to address inequities in access to healthy diets. We evaluated the extent to which studies (n = 66) employing SSSM to examine retail food environments (RFEs): included three pillars of equity (social position, human capital, socioeconomic and political context) that shape RFEs and access to healthy diets; grounded model design and development in theory; engaged with diverse stakeholders and lived experiences related to RFEs; and translated model findings towards addressing inequities in RFEs. Most studies (n = 58) included some model characteristics related to social position (e.
