This is the 1st report of Ochlerotatus japonicus japonicus in the state of Tennessee, USA. Adults were collected at 5 sites in northwestern Knox County from June 9 through November 3, 2003, and from 1 site in both 2003 and 2004.

Land cover is recognized as an important determinant of mosquito community assemblages and pathogen transmission, but few studies have investigated the role of land cover in populations of La Crosse virus (LACV) vectors. La Crosse virus is a zoonotic disease primarily maintained by native , with accessory transmission by invasive vectors and The objective of this study was to investigate the association between land cover composition and the egg abundances of LACV vectors in a city with endemic LACV transmission. Oviposition cups were deployed at sites ranging from recreational forests to urban areas.

More than 3550 species of mosquitoes are known worldwide, and only a fraction is involved in the transmission of arboviruses. Mosquitoes in sylvatic and semi-sylvatic habitats may rapidly adapt to urban parks and metropolitan environments, increasing human contact. Many of these mosquitoes have been found naturally infected with arboviruses from the , , and families, with many being the cause of medically important diseases.

Current climatic conditions limit the distribution of () (Skuse, Diptera: Culicidae) in the north, but predictive climate models suggest this species could establish itself in southern Canada by 2040. A vector of chikungunya, dengue, yellow fever, Zika and West Nile viruses, the has been detected in Windsor, Ontario since 2016. Given the potential public health implications, and knowing that can easily be introduced by ground transportation, this study aimed to determine if specimens could be detected, using an adequate methodology, in southern Québec.
