Cholinergic markers in ALS spinal cord.

J Neurol Sci

Published: March 1992

We analyzed binding sites for quinuclidinyl benzilate (QNB) and hemicholinium-3 (HC-3) by quantitative slice autoradiography and the activities of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in spinal cord of 5-7 patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). In the ventral horn, QNB binding sites were markedly reduced (38% of controls; P less than 0.001), whereas HC-3 binding sites were only moderately affected (76%, P less than 0.01). Losses in cholinergic marker enzymes were inconsistent. The loss of muscarinic binding sites in the ventral horn was the most reliable cholinergic disease marker in ALS.

This study investigated a library of known and novel glycyrrhizic acid (GL) conjugates with amino acids and dipeptide esters, as inhibitors of the DENV NS2B-NS3 protease. We utilized docking algorithms to evaluate the interactions of these GL derivatives with key residues (His51, Asp75, Ser135, and Gly153) within 10 Å of the DENV-2 NS2B-NS3 protease binding pocket (PDB ID: 2FOM). It was found that compounds and exhibited unique binding patterns, forming hydrogen bonds with Asp75, Tyr150, and Gly153.

Background: A goal of mucosal human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) vaccines is to generate mucosal plasma cells producing polymeric IgA (pIgA)-neutralizing antibodies at sites of viral entry. However, vaccine immunogens capable of eliciting IgA neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) that recognize tier 2 viral isolates have not yet been identified.

Methods: To determine if stabilized native-like HIV-1 envelope (Env) trimers could generate IgA nAbs, we purified total IgA and IgG from the banked sera of six rhesus macaques that had been found in a previous study to develop serum nAbs after subcutaneous immunization with BG505.

: To improve the solubility and permeability of Sparfloxacin (SPX) and enhance its antimicrobial activity in vitro, two unreported pharmaceutical crystalline salts were synthesized and characterized in this paper. One is a hydrated crystal of Sparfloxacin with Pimelic acid (PIA), another is a hydrated crystal of Sparfloxacin with Azelaic acid (AZA), namely, SPX-PIA-HO (2CHFNO·CHO·2HO) and SPX-AZA-HO (4CHFNO·2CHO·5HO). : The structure and purity of two crystalline salts were analyzed using solid-state characterization methods such as single-crystal X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and infrared spectroscopy.

The effect of 2-hydroxpropyl-β-cyclodextrin (2HPβCD) with or without divalent metal ions (Ca, Mg, and Zn) on the stability of dalbavancin in acetate buffer was investigated. Dalbavancin recovery from formulations with 2HPβCD and divalent metal ions after four weeks of storage at 5 °C and 55 °C was measured by RP-HPLC and HP-SEC; a longer-term study was carried out over six months at 5 °C, 25 °C, and 40 °C. Binding of 2HPβCD was characterized by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

Mercury Adsorption by Ca-Based Shell-Type Polymers Synthesized by Self-Assembly Mineralization.

Polymers (Basel)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Coal Combustion, School of Energy and Power Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430074, China.

Adsorption is one of the most promising strategies for heavy metal removal. For Hg(II) removal, mineralized Ca-based shell-type self-assembly beads (MCABs) using alginate as organic polymer template were synthesized in this work. The adsorbent preparation consists of gelation of a Ca-based spherical polymer template (CAB) and rate-controlled self-assembly mineralization in bicarbonate solution with various concentrations.
