Supersymmetric SO10 seesaw mechanism with low B-L scale.

Published: October 2005

We propose a new seesaw mechanism for neutrino masses within a class of supersymmetric SO(10) models with broken D parity. It is shown that in such scenarios the B-L scale can be as low as TeV without generating inconsistencies with gauge coupling unification nor with the required magnitude of the light neutrino masses. This leads to a possibly light new neutral gauge boson as well as relatively light quasi-Dirac heavy leptons. These particles could be at the TeV scale and mediate lepton flavor and CP violating processes at appreciable levels.

Proton decay and flavor violating thresholds in SO(10) models.

Discovery of neutrino mass has put the spotlight on the supersymmetric (SUSY) SO(10) model as a natural candidate for grand unification of forces and matter. However, the suppression of proton decay is a major problem in such SUSY grand unified models. In this Letter we show how to alleviate this problem by simple threshold effects which raise the colored Higgsino masses and the grand unification scale to greater than or similar to 10(17) GeV.

Supersymmetric standard model from the heterotic string.

Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY, 22603 Hamburg, Germany.

We present a [FORMULA: SEE TEXT] orbifold compactification of the E8xE8 heterotic string which leads to the (supersymmetric) standard model gauge group and matter content. The quarks and leptons appear as three 16-plets of SO(10), whereas the Higgs fields do not form complete SO(10) multiplets. The model has large vacuum degeneracy.

Suppressing proton decay in the minimal SO(10) model.

Phys Rev Lett

Department of Physics, University of Regina, Regina, Saskatchewan S4S 0A2, Canada.

We show that in a class of minimal supersymmetric SO(10) models which have been found to be quite successful in predicting neutrino mixings, all proton decay modes can be suppressed by a particular choice of Yukawa textures. The required texture not only fits all lepton and quark masses as well as Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa parameters, but it also predicts neutrino mixing parameter U(e3) and Dirac CP phase sin(/delta(MNS)/ to be 0.07-0.

Supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified models with Yukawa unification and a positive mu term.

Phys Rev Lett

Department of Physics, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida 32306, USA.

Supersymmetric grand unified models based on SO(10) gauge symmetry have many desirable features, including the unification of Yukawa couplings. Including D-term contributions to scalar masses arising from the breakdown of SO(10), Yukawa coupling unification only to 30% can be achieved in models with a positive superpotential Higgs mass. The superparticle mass spectrum is highly constrained and yields relatively light top squarks and charginos.
