Despite extensive research efforts, effective therapies for refractive cancers have not yet been established, and development of successful treatment strategies remains the most important task in the field of oncology. We recently showed that AVE8062 (formerly AC7700), a derivative of combretastatin A-4, achieved irreversible stasis of tumor blood flow (TBF), thereby causing necrosis of tumor tissue by halting the supply of nutrients. Such effects were unrelated to cancer type. In this review, we summarize our experiments on antivascular and antitumor effects by AVE8062. We maintain that such starvation tactics against solid tumors constitute a new therapeutic strategy for all solid tumors, including refractory cancers.

Tumor organoids have emerged as powerful tools for in vitro cancer research due to their ability to retain the structural and genetic characteristics of tumors. Nevertheless, the absence of a complete tumor microenvironment (TME) limits the broader application of organoid models in immunological studies. Given the critical role of immune cells in tumor initiation and progression, the co-culture model of organoids and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) may provide an effective platform for simulating the interactions between immune and tumor cells in vitro.

Introduction: Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer amongst women in the United Kingdom, with implant-based reconstruction (IBR) using Acellular Dermal Matrices (ADM) gaining popularity for post-mastectomy procedures. This study compares outcomes of different ADMs that are commonly used in women undergoing IBR, this was short and long-term complications.

Methods: A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, and CDSR databases was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines, focusing on women undergoing IBR with FlexHD, AlloDerm, Bovine, or Porcine ADMs.

Impact of serum lipid on recurrence of uterine fibroids: a single center retrospective study.

BMC Womens Health

December 2024

Department of Gynecology, Ningbo Medical Center Lihuili Hospital, No.1111 Jiangnan Road, Yinzhou District, Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, 315040, China.

Background: We aimed to analyze the correlation between serum lipid levels [total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)] and recurrence after uterine fibroids (UF) resection, and explore the predictive value of serum lipid levels in determining recurrence after myomectomy.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 323 patients undergoing first myomectomy who came from Li Huili Hospital, Ningbo Medical Center between December 2019 and January 2023 were included. The primary endpoint was the recurrence of UF within 12 months following surgery.

The clinical use of cancer vaccines is hampered by the low magnitude of induced T-cell responses and the need for repetitive antigen stimulation. Here, we demonstrate that liposomal formulations with incorporated STING agonists are optimally suited to deliver peptide antigens to dendritic cells in vivo and to activate dendritic cells in secondary lymphoid organs. One week after liposomal priming, systemic administration of peptides and a costimulatory agonistic CD40 antibody enables ultrarapid expansion of T cells, resulting in massive expansion of tumor-specific T cells in the peripheral blood two weeks after priming.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to investigate lipopolysaccharid-binding protein (LBP), zonulin and calprotectin as markers of bacterial translocation, disturbed gut barrier and intestinal inflammation in patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA) during tumour necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) therapy and to analyze the association between disease activity, response to treatment and biomarker levels.

Methods: Patients with active r-axSpA of the German Spondyloarthritis Inception Cohort starting TNFi were compared with controls with chronic back pain. Serum levels of LBP, zonulin and calprotectin were measured at baseline and after 1 year of TNFi therapy.
