Erythrocyte acid phosphatase (ACP1), also named low molecular weight phosphotyrosine phosphatase (LMW-PTP) is an enzyme involved in signal transduction pathways of tyrosine kinase receptor. The precise physiological role of ACP1 remains to be elucidated, however recent advancements suggest that it may play an important role in the control of cell proliferation. ACP1 is a highly polymorphic enzyme that has been investigated by case-control studies for decades. Initially based on protein electrophoresis, the phenotype of ACP1 is now detected by DNA-based techniques. Here, we report a new rapid single tube genotyping method for ACP1 by FRET based amplification and dual color melting curve analysis. This method does not require a post-procedure amplification process and allows unambiguous genotyping of 30 samples in less than 1 h.

Since the precursor frequency of naive T cells is extremely low, investigating the early steps of antigen-specific T cell activation is challenging. To overcome this detection problem, adoptive transfer of a cohort of T cells purified from T cell receptor (TCR) transgenic donors has been extensively used but is not readily available for emerging pathogens. Constructing TCR transgenic mice from T cell hybridomas is a labor-intensive and sometimes erratic process, since the best clones are selected based on antigen-induced CD69 upregulation or IL-2 production in vitro, and TCR chains are polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-cloned into expression vectors.

Cells are the fundamental units of life, comprising a highly concentrated and complex assembly of biomolecules that interact dynamic ally across spatial and temporal scales. Living cells are constantly undergoing dynamic processes, therefore, to understand the interactions between drug molecules and living cells is of paramount importance in the biomedical sciences and pharmaceutical development. Compared with traditional end-point assays and fixed cell analysis, analysis of drug molecules in living cells can provide more insight into the effects of drugs on cells in real-time and allowing for a better understanding of drug mechanisms and effects, which will contribute to the development of drug developing and testing and personalize medicine.

Effects of protection on large-bodied reef fishes in the western Indian Ocean.

Predatory and large-bodied coral reef fishes have fundamental roles in the functioning and biodiversity of coral reef ecosystems, but their populations are declining, largely due to overexploitation in fisheries. These fishes include sharks, groupers, Humphead wrasse (Cheilinus undulatus), and Green Humphead parrotfish (Bolbometopon muricatum). In the western Indian Ocean, this situation is exacerbated by limited population data on these fishes, including from conventional visual census methods, which limit the surface area surveyed.

Introduction: This study explored the effects of four different surgical methods in the treatment of cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP).

Methods: In this multicenter retrospective analysis of 359 patients, the surgical indices, the time taken for the serum human chorionic gonadotropin level to return to normal, the recovery time of menstruation, and the incidence of postoperative adverse reactions were comparatively analyzed. The clinical efficacies of various preoperative treatment methods to block the blood supply to CSP tissues and those of four different surgical methods to treat CSP, namely, curettage, hysteroscopic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and vaginal surgery, were evaluated in this study.
