Alkaptonuria (AKU) is a genetically determined disease associated with disorders of tyrosine metabolism. In AKU, the deposition of homogentisic acid polymers contributes to the pathological ossification of cartilage tissue. The controlled use of biomimetics similar to deposits observed in cartilage during AKU potentially may serve the development of new bone regeneration therapy based on the activation of osteoblasts.

Purpose: Necrotizing otitis externa (NOE) is a serious life-threatening infection, with Pseudomonas (PA) aeruginosa being the primary causative agent. Over the last two decades the use of systemic anti-PA antibiotics expanded substantially and are now prescribed regularly by physicians. To report a case of spontaneous-onset unilateral scleritis and keratitis due to Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus who partially responded to antibiotic therapy and achieved complete resolution after IV immunotherapy. A 30-year-old woman with a past medical history of hypothyroidism and systemic lupus erythematosus and on irregular therapy presented with a long-history of thinning of the sclera and cornea refractory to antibiotic therapy despite a positive culture for P. aeruginosa, which eventually resolved with the implementation of immunotherapy.

Here, we present the case of a 26-year-old female with acute myeloid leukaemia undergoing salvage chemotherapy, who developed an acutely expanding subcutaneous mass starting on the frontotemporal scalp to the angle of the jaw. Histopathologic evaluation was consistent with sclerosing fat necrosis with overlying psoriasiform spongiotic dermatitis.
