High pressure (HP) treatment inactivates bacteria in shellfish, but its effects on viruses in shellfish have not yet been determined, although viral illness is frequently associated with shellfish consumption. The aim of this study was to investigate the baroresistance of two bacteriophage viruses, Qbeta coliphage and c2 phage, in oysters and in culture media. High numbers (>or=10(7) ml(-1) or g(-1)) of both phages were obtained in culture media and in oysters. Samples were HP treated at 200-800 MPa at 20 degrees C for up to 30 min. Little or no inactivation of either phage was observed in oysters or in culture media after treatment at

NLRP3: a key regulator of skin wound healing and macrophage-fibroblast interactions in mice.

Cell Commun Signal

January 2025

Laboratory of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, No. 306, Zhaowuda Road, Hohhot, 010018, China.

Wound healing is a highly coordinated process driven by intricate molecular signaling and dynamic interactions between diverse cell types. Nod-like receptor pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) has been implicated in the regulation of inflammation and tissue repair; however, its specific role in skin wound healing remains unclear. This study highlights the pivotal role of NLRP3 in effective skin wound healing, as demonstrated by delayed wound closure and altered cellular and molecular responses in NLRP3-deficient (NLRP3) mice.

Blood transfusion plays a vital role in modern medicine, but frequent shortages occur. Ex vivo manufacturing of red blood cells (RBCs) from universal donor cells offers a potential solution, yet the high cost of recombinant cytokines remains a barrier. Erythropoietin (EPO) signaling is crucial for RBC development, and EPO is among the most expensive media components.

Direct SARS-CoV-2 infection of endothelial cells is challenging to study in vitro. To examine whether endothelial cell culture conditions impact the ability of SARS-CoV-2 to infect cells, we evaluated the effects of commercial cell culture media composition on SARS-CoV-2 Spike-directed viral infection. In African Green Monkey kidney epithelial cells (VeroE6), we found that commercial cell culture media (EGM2) produced inhibitory effects on recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus (rVSV-SARS-CoV-2) growth that is not seen in Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM).

Due to their importance in various fields such biotechnology, medicine, food science, preserving microorganisms effectively is essential. This study investigated cryopreservation of the edible fungus Pleurotus pulmonarius and the medicinal mushroom Ganoderma lucidum, for three years at -80°C in sorghum grains without cryoprotectants. We compared viability, growth, and yields with strains maintained on agar media at 5°C.

A structurally novel metabolite, fatuamide A (), was discovered from a laboratory cultured strain of the marine cyanobacterium sp., collected from Faga'itua Bay, American Samoa. A bioassay-guided approach using NCI-H460 human lung cancer cells directed the isolation of fatuamide A, which was obtained from the most cytotoxic fraction.
