Recovery of the histogram of hourly ozone distribution from weekly average concentrations.

Published: May 2006

A simple method is presented for estimating hourly distribution of air pollutants, based on data collected by passive sensors on a weekly or bi-weekly basis with no need for previous measurements at a site. In order for this method to be applied to locations where no hourly records are available, reference data from other sites are required to generate calibration histograms. The proposed procedure allows one to obtain the histogram of hourly ozone values during a given week with an error of about 30%, which is good considering the simplicity of this approach. This method can be a valuable tool for sites that lack previous hourly records of pollutant ambient concentrations, where it can be used to verify compliance with regulations or to estimate the AOT40 index with an acceptable degree of exactitude.

Evaluating the ability of the Wind Erosion Prediction System (WEPS) to simulate near-surface wind speeds in the Inland Pacific Northwest, USA.

Sci Rep

Key Research Institute of Yellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development & Collaborative Innovation Center for Yellow River Civilization, Henan University, Kaifeng, China.

Wind speed is one of the main control factors of wind erosion and dust emissions, which are major problems in arid and semiarid regions of the world. Accurately simulating highly precise hourly wind speeds is critical and cost-efficient for land management decisions with the goal of mitigating wind erosion and land degradation. The Wind Erosion Prediction System (WEPS) is a process-based, daily time-step model that simulates changes in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere.

Background: The normative blood pressure values in preterm infants still not well defined during postnatal transition. We aimed to create normative blood pressure (BP) reference values in preterm infants <29 weeks gestational age recorded hourly during the postnatal transition.

Methods: We included only data from hemodynamically stable newborns.

Data set on wind speed, wind direction and wind probability distributions in Puerto Bolivar - Colombia.

Data Brief

December 2019

Facultad de Ingeniería, Grupo de investigación en gestión eficiente de la energía - kaí. Universidad del Atlántico, Carrera 30 Número 8-49, Puerto Colombia, Área Metropolitana de Barranquilla 080007, Colombia.

This paper presents wind speed and direction data measured with a weather station located in Puerto Bolivar, department of La Guajira, situated in the extreme north of Colombia, whose geographic coordinates are 12°11'N 71°55'W. A wind speed and direction sensor, a barometric pressure sensor, and a temperature sensor were used to obtain the presented data. These data were taken at the height of 10 m, which is the highest point of the weather station.

Methylphenidate (MPD) is one of the most prescribed pharmacological agents, which is also used for cognitive enhancement and recreational purposes. The objective of this study was to investigate the repetitive dose-response effects of MPD on circadian rhythm of locomotor activity pattern of female WKY rats. The hypothesis is that a change in the circadian activity pattern indicates a long-lasting effect of the drug.

Centile-based early warning scores derived from statistical distributions of vital signs.

Resuscitation

August 2011

Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Old Road Campus Research Building (Off Roosevelt Drive), University of Oxford, Oxford OX3 7DQ, UK.

Aim Of Study: To develop an early warning score (EWS) system based on the statistical properties of the vital signs in at-risk hospitalised patients.

Materials And Methods: A large dataset comprising 64,622 h of vital-sign data, acquired from 863 acutely ill in-hospital patients using bedside monitors, was used to investigate the statistical properties of the four main vital signs. Normalised histograms and cumulative distribution functions were plotted for each of the four variables.
