We have studied the breaking of a two-dimensional alkane crystal above the disordered melt using an oscillating bubble rheometer. Surface tension changes abruptly during the expansion and contraction cycle. We postulate that this is due to rupture of the 2D crystal at grain boundaries. The magnitude of the abrupt change in surface tension decreases with a decrease in the rate of change of bubble surface area with a power law exponent of 0.8. The interfacial area formed after rupture decreases with a decrease in rate. These results provide new insights in understanding defect-mediated rupture in confined geometry.

A new methodology based on the Hamieh thermal model was applied for the determination of the surface properties of solid surfaces. The new approach consisted of the accurate quantification of the London dispersive surface energy of materials using the two-dimensional inverse gas chromatography technique at infinite dilution. This technique used the notion of the net retention volume of adsorbed molecules on the solid catalysts, allowing the determination of the free energy of adsorption.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) due to the overexpression of the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) efflux pump remains a significant challenge in cancer therapy, also in breast cancer. Traditional pharmacological approaches have focused on using inhibitors to modulate P-gp expression and function. Curcumin, a polyphenol derived from Curcuma longa L.

The development of two-dimensional (2D) layered MXene materials has opened new possibilities for gas adsorption applications due to their high specific surface area, tunable surface chemistry, and excellent selectivity towards specific gases. These materials exhibit tremendous potential in adsorption-based gas separation and detection, particularly due to their strong interactions with target gas molecules, making them highly effective in gas removal and detection applications. However, currently available methods for synthesizing these oxidized nanocomposite inks are limited by the typically high temperatures involved.

Understanding the intricate interplay between nanoparticle-mediated cyanobacterial interactions is pivotal in elucidating their impact on the transcriptome and lipidome. In the present study, total fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) in the wild-type (B481-WT) and transformant (B481-SD) Fremyella diplosiphon strains treated with nanoscale zero-valent iron nanoparticles (nZVIs) were characterized, and transcriptome changes analyzed. Comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography-time-of-flight mass spectrometry revealed a 20-25% higher percentage of FAMEs in nZVI-treated F.

A chiral ionic organic single-crystal (CIOC) was prepared for the first time through ionic self-assembly using bipyridium chiral ionic liquid (CIL) and 4,4'-biphenyldisulfonic acid (BDA). The CIOC can be ultrasonically exfoliated to produce two-dimensional nanosheets (2D-NSs). The 2D-NSs presented enhanced enantioseparation compared to the CIOC and CIL when used as gas chromatography stationary phase, which may be due to the exfoliated 2D-NSs exhibiting greater exposure of functional groups.
