We report the first experimental demonstration of coherent population transfer, induced by stimulated Raman adiabatic passage, via continuum states. Population is transferred from the metastable state 2s(1)S(0) to the excited state 4s(1)S(0) in helium atoms in a two-photon process mediated by coherent interaction with the ionization continuum. While incoherent techniques usually do not permit any population transfer in such a process, we show that stimulated Raman adiabatic passage allows significant population transfer to take place also via ultrafast decay channels.

The objective of this review is to evaluate and summarize the evidence base for the effects of monetary intervention approaches (the use of positive monetary reinforcers and gains) on diabetes outcomes. A reproducible search using OVID Medline, PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL was conducted. Articles published from database creation up to July 2024 were searched.

Electroactive organisms contribute to metal cycling, pollutant removal, and other redox-driven environmental processes via extracellular electron transfer (EET). Unfortunately, developing genotype-phenotype relationships for electroactive organisms is challenging because EET is necessarily removed from the cell of origin. Microdroplet emulsions, which encapsulate individual cells in aqueous droplets, have been used to study a variety of extracellular phenotypes but have not been applied to investigate EET.

Background: Many species are exhibiting range shifts associated with anthropogenic change. For migratory species, colonisation of new areas can require novel migratory programmes that facilitate navigation between independently-shifting seasonal ranges. Therefore, in some cases range-shifts may be limited by the capacity for novel migratory programmes to be transferred between generations, which can be genetically and socially mediated.

About ten years ago, studies on health literacy in Germany indicated that population health literacy was low. This prompted a group of distinguished experts to initiate the development of a National Action Plan for Health Literacy (NAP-HL) for Germany, modeled after those of other countries. This article explains the origins and development of the plan in Germany, provides an overview of the steps taken during its creation, and summarizes its content.

Single-molecule fluorescence resonance energy transfer (smFRET) is a powerful technique for studying the structural dynamics of protein molecules or detecting interactions between protein molecules in real time. Due to the high sensitivity in spatial and temporal resolution, smFRET can decipher sub-populations within heterogeneous native state conformations, which are generally lost in traditional measurements due to ensemble averaging. In addition, the single-molecule reconstitution allows protein molecules to be observed for an extensive period of time and can recapitulate the geometry of the cellular environment to retain biological function.
