Although pathological lying was first described in the medical literature over 100 years ago, it remains a poorly understood concept. Psychiatrists continue to grapple with the full ramifications of the condition, even though interest specifically in pathological lying seems to have waned in recent times. The impact of pathological lying deserves critical attention from forensic psychiatrists because of the implications that untruths have in a legal context. In this article, the authors review the considerable vagueness and confusion that has surrounded this concept and examine the extent to which a person can control lying behavior and the related question of whether pathological liars have responsibility for their actions. While providing a structured framework for considering pathological lying in the forensic context, the authors conclude that further systematic research is needed to resolve the questions raised in this article.
The study aimed to distinguish between placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) and uterine-scar dehiscence using standardized ultrasound techniques, which is often difficult even for experts.
A retrospective cohort study was conducted with women who had previous Cesarean deliveries and current pregnancies with low-lying placenta conditions, analyzing various ultrasound markers to classify cases of PAS and non-PAS.
Out of 150 cases reviewed, 144 were included in the analysis, resulting in 89 PAS cases, 23 uterine-scar dehiscence cases, and 32 cases with uncomplicated low-lying placenta or placenta previa.

SARS-CoV-2 3C-like protease (3CL or M) cleaves the SARS-CoV-2 polyprotein and >300 intracellular host proteins to enhance viral replication. By lytic cell death following gasdermin (GSDM) pore formation in cell membranes, antiviral pyroptosis decreases 3CL expression and viral replication. Unexpectedly, 3CL and nucleocapsid proteins undergo unconventional secretion from infected cells via caspase-activated GSDMD/E pores in the absence of cell lysis.
There are several mechanisms responsible for the dynamical link between heart period (HP) and respiration (R), usually referred to as cardiorespiratory coupling (CRC). Historically, diverse signal processing techniques have been employed to study CRC from the spontaneous fluctuations of HP and respiration (R). The proposed tools differ in terms of rationale and implementation, capturing diverse aspects of CRC.
Dendritic spine morphology is associated with the current state of the synapse and neuron, and changes during synaptic plasticity in response to stimulus. At the same time, dendritic spine alterations are reported during various neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders and other brain states. Accurate and informative analysis of spine shape has an urgent need for studying the synaptic processes and molecular pathways in normal and pathological conditions, and for testing synapto-protective strategies during preclinical studies.
