Purpose: To determine the normal relative length, girth, and nail width of the pediatric thumb with respect to the index finger in children ages 1 through 18 years.
Methods: Measurements of relative thumb length, girth, and nail width were performed on 546 hands in 273 volunteers ages 1 through 18 years. At least 22 hands were included for each age group. The data were analyzed by age, gender, and hand, with the thumb compared with the index finger for all measurements.
Results: The adducted thumb tip reached an average of 70% of the length of the index finger proximal phalanx and 32% of the length of the index finger from the metacarpophalangeal joint to its tip. The thumb girth and nail width as a percentage of corresponding levels of the index finger girth and nail width were 133% and 105%, respectively. Relative thumb size remained constant with no significant difference in length, width, or girth between age groups.
Conclusions: The relative size of the thumb remains constant during growth. These normative data will allow a more objective assessment of thumb size and appearance.

Current research on thumb polydactyly reconstruction focusses primarily on clinical evaluations. Details on aesthetic outcomes are relatively lacking. This study aims to address this gap by: (1) investigating the effectiveness of surgical treatment in achieving symmetrical thumb size, length and girth; (2) assessing aesthetic outcomes from a caregiver's perspective and (3) identifying key factors that influence aesthetic outcomes to inform strategies to improve surgical reconstruction.

Purpose: The reconstruction of Allen's type IV fingertip amputation is a clinical challenge. Our team designed bilateral unequal-sized hallux osteo-onychocutaneous free flaps for the long-term reconstruction of Allen's type IV fingertip amputation and conducted a retrospective study with a 5-year follow-up aims to evaluate the effects of this technique.
Methods: A retrospective analysis with a 5-year follow-up including 13 patients with Allen's type IV fingertip amputation who were admitted to our hospital from January 2010 to January 2017 was conducted.

BACKGROUND Kinesiology tape indications of use include pain mitigation, neurosensory input, and promotion of circulation. Current evidence suggests that residual functional limitations following intramedullary nailing of the femoral shaft may be due to soft tissue injury and compromise. This retrospective study from a single center aimed to compare the effects of kinesiology taping on edema of the lower limb in 14 patients following intramedullary nailing for femoral shaft fracture.

Background: Thumb polydactyly is one of the most common congenital hand deformities, and the Bilhaut-Cloquet procedure or a modified one is often used. However, controversy remains over the rare instances in which both thumbs are not of similar length or far apart in distance.
Aim: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of pedicle complex tissue flap transfer in the treatment of duplicated thumbs with unequal size.

Objective: To investigate the necessity and feasibility of digit fusion with an advanced island flap in thumb dysplasia of radial polydactyly.
Methods: From February 2007 to January 2015,we collected the patients with radial polydactyly, whose nail width or thumb girth was less than 80% of contralateral side. Among them, some patients were also associated with radial deviation deformities in two thumbs or a shorter radial thumb compared with ulnar thumb.
