Neuroglobin (Ngb) is a newly discovered hexacoordinate globin that is expressed in vertebrate brain and can reversibly bind oxygen. Expression of Ngb increases in response to oxygen deprivation and protects neurons from hypoxia in vitro and in vivo. Recent work on human Ngb has shed light on the mechanism of this neuroprotection by human Ngb, as discussed in this review. Human ferric Ngb has been found to act as a guanine nucleotide dissociation inhibitor for the alpha subunit of heterotrimeric G proteins. Moreover, other Ngb-binding proteins also have been identified. These findings suggest that human Ngb may function as a regulator of signal transduction in the brain.

Objective: To explore youth Rugby Union coaches' preferences for education and support in the implementation of injury prevention programmes (IPPs).
Methods: Twelve Rugby Union coaches involved with youth teams participated in five online focus groups. Conventional content analysis was used to determine preferences initially from transcripts, and thereafter main categories, generic categories and sub-categories.

Purpose: The present research aimed to investigate the effects of a self-efficacy-centered self-management program on persons with neurogenic bladder (NGB) after spinal cord injury (SCI).
Design: A randomized controlled trial.
Materials And Methods: Eighty-two individuals with NGB after spinal cord injury (SCI) were randomized into either the control or intervention group.

Aberrant response to physiological cell stress is part of the mechanisms underlying the development of diverse human diseases, including neuropathologies. Neuroglobin (NGB), an intracellular monomeric globin, has gained attention for its role in endogenous stress response pathways in neuroprotection. To date, evidence supports the concept of NGB as an inducible protein, triggered by physiological and pathological stimuli via transcriptional and/or post-transcriptional mechanisms, offering cell-autonomous neuroprotective functions under various cellular stresses.

The study aimed to validate the protective effect of neuroglobin (Ngb) in a cell model of Parkinson's disease (PD) and explore its therapeutic potential. Lentivirus-Ngb (LvNgb) and siRNA-Ngb (siNgb) were used to achieve Ngb overexpression and knockdown, respectively, in a sporadic PD cell model. Apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry-based Annexin V/propidium iodide assays.

Purpose: Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and neuroglobin (NGB) are important biomarkers of cerebral hypoxia. For this reason, an attempt was made to assess their concentrations in various time intervals and their impact on the severity of neurological symptoms and functional prognosis of thrombolytic ischemic stroke patients.
Patients And Methods: The study involved 94 patients reporting to the emergency department of the Collegium Medicum University Hospital in Bydgoszcz within < 4.
