Transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) is associated with pneumothorax, 12% occurring 1 to 4 hours postprocedure (delayed pneumothorax). We report a case of a delayed pneumothorax first diagnosed on a positron emission tomography (PET) scan performed 5 days after TBLB. An early post-TBLB chest radiograph (after 1 hour) had not demonstrated any pneumothorax. The delayed pneumothorax was later confirmed with a repeat radiograph after the PET scan. Often, PET is performed to diagnose or stage pulmonary lesions after TBLB rather than before. Therefore, nuclear physicians must remain vigilant to recognize subtle pneumothoraces on PET scans.

This review presents current opinions on an uncommon condition called catamenial pneumothorax (CP), which is usually associated with thoracic endometriosis syndrome (TES). TES is characterized by the presence of endometriotic lesions in pleura and lung parenchyma and presents with various clinical signs and symptoms, including catamenial pneumothorax. Their diagnosis is often delayed.

Delays in accessing chest drain equipment in the Emergency Department (ED) posed significant risks to patient safety, particularly for those with life-threatening pneumothorax. This quality improvement project (QIP) aimed to reduce these delays by implementing a dedicated chest drain trolley using the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) methodology. Surveys and simulations identified key issues, including equipment inaccessibility and staff unfamiliarity, with baseline preparation times exceeding 20 minutes.

Objective: Tissue diagnosis through a variety of interventional approaches guides thoracic cancer management, but often introduces delay to definitive treatment and can be resource intensive. We introduced a thoracic surgeon-led, point-of-care ultrasound-guided biopsy program to provide rapid diagnosis for patients with thoracic cancers. We assessed the diagnostic yield and adverse events with this approach.

Millions of individuals worldwide are afflicted by the fatal infectious disease tuberculosis, which accounts for thousands of avoidable deaths. The literature has provided a good description of the clinical manifestation and radiologic features of pulmonary tuberculosis. However, the parenchymal complication of pulmonary tuberculosis presenting as cystic lung disease, has not been widely documented in the literature and is one of the incredibly uncommon causes of diffuse cystic lung disease.
