This work presents mechanisms to support the development and installation of content-based image retrieval in medical applications (IRMA). A strict separation of feature extraction, feature storage, feature comparison, and the user interfaces is suggested. The concept and implementation of a system following these guidelines is described. The system allows to reuse implemented components in different retrieval algorithms, which improves software quality, shortens the development cycle for applications, and allows to establish standardized end-user interfaces.

This article serves as a guide to the Tobacco-Free Generation policy (TFG) for policy-makers, drawing on experiences of negotiations regarding TFG in a wide number of jurisdictions. It explains the underlying concept: the highly addictive nature of nicotine prompts policy focus on preventing initial use by forbidding sales to those born after a prescribed cut-off birthdate, while resisting prohibition for those in older cohorts who may already be nicotine-dependent. The policy signals that there is no safe age for tobacco products.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy outcomes of the traditional Judkins left and right catheters with those of the recently introduced Tiger catheter in female participants aged 65 years and older who underwent transradial coronary angiography.
Methods: A cohort of 160 female patients aged 65 and older who were scheduled for coronary angiography (CAG) were divided into two groups according to the use of Tiger (n = 80) or Judkins (n = 80) catheters for radial angiography at a ratio of 1:1, respectively. We analyzed the effectiveness of the Tiger and Judkins catheters, the incidence of catheter failure, contrast volume, CAG time, fluoroscopy time, dose-area product (in mGy/cm), and the occurrence of radial spasm.

MALDI-HiPLEX-IHC mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) represents a newly established workflow to map tens of antibodies linked to photocleavable mass tags (PC-MTs), which report the distribution of antigens in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections. While this highly multiplexed approach has previously been integrated with untargeted methods, the possibility of mapping target cell antigens and performing bottom-up spatial proteomics on the same tissue section has yet to be explored. This proof-of-concept study presents a novel workflow combining MALDI-HiPLEX-IHC with untargeted spatial proteomics to analyze a single FFPE tissue section, using clinical clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) tissue as a model.

Nowadays, food preservation, quality maintenance, and safety are major emerging concerns in the food industry. Methods for removing pathogens from the outside surfaces of food products would be an effective way to prevent bacterial contamination. Nanotopographies found on natural surfaces have been shown to mechanically damage the membranes of foodborne bacteria.

Background: Timely diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is crucial for early interventions, but its implementation is often challenging due to the complexity and time burden of required cognitive assessments. Remote unsupervised self-testing of cognition can potentially addres this health care challenge. We conducted the to date largest evaluation of feasibility and experienced added value of unsupervised digital remote assessment in primary and specialized health care in Germany.
