Myelomeningoceles are routinely diagnosed prenatally by using ultrasonography. Because the level of the neural defect has been shown to correlate with functional and cognitive outcome in infants with myelomeningocele, it is of prognostic importance to identify the level prenatally. The authors report on a case in which the postnatal vertebral level of the myelomeningocele was more rostral than expected based on prenatal imaging.

Background: Noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT) is increasingly used to screen for fetal chromosomal aneuploidy by analyzing cell-free DNA (cfDNA) in peripheral maternal blood. The method provides an opportunity for early detection of large genetic abnormalities without an increased risk of miscarriage due to invasive procedures. Commercial applications for use at clinical laboratories often take advantage of DNA sequencing technologies and include the bioinformatic workup of the sequence data.

Background: Fluoxetine is commonly prescribed to treat depression during pregnancy. We aimed to evaluate the effects of prenatal fluoxetine exposure on maternal-offspring behavior in a non-depressed sheep model.
Methods: On day 119 ± 1 of a 151-day expected gestation, Hampshire ewes were randomly assigned to receive intravenous fluoxetine (10 mg/kg for the first 2 days and 5 mg/kg daily thereafter until parturition) or a control vehicle.

Background/objectives: This study builds on previous findings from mouse models, which showed that maternal overnutrition induced by a high-fat diet (HFD) promotes metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in offspring, linked to global DNA hypermethylation. We explored whether epigenetic modulation with 5-Aza-CdR, a DNA methylation inhibitor, could prevent MAFLD in offspring exposed to maternal overnutrition.
Methods: The offspring mice from dams of maternal overnutrition were fed either a chow diet or a high-fat diet (HFD) for 10 weeks.
