Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a highly aggressive diffuse malignant proliferative disease of the lymphatic system. Patients usually present with progressive lymph node enlargement and/or extra-lymph node lesions and require early treatment upon diagnosis. Most of the patients are in stage III or IV at the time of diagnosis and about 40% of the patients are difficult to cure.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly aggressive malignancy with the majority of patients presenting at a late stage with unresectable or metastatic disease. Even with first line treatment, median survival is approximately 11 months in patients with advanced PDAC. This report details the unique case of a patient that presented with peritoneal metastases from an adenocarcinoma of the body of the pancreas, had a remarkable response to palliative chemotherapy and is alive without evidence of disease 12 months following cessation of all active treatment.

Paediatric renal tumours: an update on challenges and recent developments.

Virchows Arch

January 2025

Histology Laboratory, Children's Health Ireland, Dublin, Ireland.

Paediatric renal tumours include a broad range of neoplasms which largely differ, but also overlap to a smaller extent, with adult kidney cancer. These include the embryonal tumour nephroblastoma, which accounts for the majority of cases of kidney cancer in the first decade of life and, despite boasting a cure in ~ 90% cases, still presents clinical challenges in a small proportion of cases. A variety of less common mesenchymal tumours, including the mostly indolent congenital mesoblastic nephroma, clear cell sarcoma of kidney which continues to be associated with poor outcomes for higher stage disease, and the typically lethal malignant rhabdoid tumour, form the bulk of the remaining presentations in the first decade.

Background: While Lewy body (LB) pathology typically associates with a distinct clinical profile compared to Alzheimer's disease (AD), early memory deficits are not uncommon and can confound clinical diagnosis of amnestic patients. Moreover, approximately 30-60% of AD patients have concomitant LB pathology, which has been reported to affect the clinical phenotype and result in a more aggressive disease course. Recently developed α-synuclein seed amplification assays (αSyn-SAAs) have demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy for LB diseases, but the role of these novel biomarkers in the context of amnestic presentations typical for AD remains to be investigated in more detail.

Background: Agitation, manifesting as aggressive and non-aggressive behaviors, is one of the most common neuropsychiatric symptoms in Alzheimer's dementia, presenting in approximately half of all patients. Despite the high prevalence, recognition of agitation in Alzheimer's dementia (AAD) remains a challenge that impacts timely diagnosis and treatment. The International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) established a new standard definition of agitation in cognitive disorders, which provides guidance for advancing recognition and improving patient care.
