Four sensitive methods are described for the direct determination of telmisartan (TELM) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) in combined dosage forms without prior separation. The first method is a first derivative spectophotometry (1D) using a zero- crossing technique of measurement at 241.6 and 227.6 nm for TELM and HCT, respectively. The second method is the first derivative of ratio spectrophotometry (1DD) where the amplitudes were measured at 242.7 nm for TELM and 274.9 nm for HCT. The third method is based on TLC separation of the two drugs followed by the densitometric measurements of their spots at 295 and 225 nm for TELM and HCT, respectively. The separation was carried out on silica gel 60 F254 using butanol: ammonia 25% (8:2 v/v) as mobile phase. The fourth method is spectrofluorimetric determination of TELM, depending on measuring the native fluorescence of the drug in 1 M sodium hydroxide at lambda excitation 230 nm and emission at 365 nm. The proposed methods were applied successfully for the determination of the two drugs in bulk powder and in pharmaceutical formulations. The spectrofluorimetric method was utilized for the analysis of TELM in human plasma.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a disease that affects more than 850 million people. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common cause of CKD, and blocking the AKI-CKD transition shows promising therapeutic potential. Herein, we found that butyrolactone I (BLI), a natural product, exerts significant nephroprotective effects, including maintenance of kidney function, inhibition of inflammatory response, and prevention of fibrosis, in both folic acid- and ureteral obstruction-induced AKI-CKD transition mouse models.

Background And Objective: Telmisartan exhibits significant pharmacokinetic (PK) variability, but it remains unclear whether its PK profile is altered in hypertensive patients. This study aimed to characterize telmisartan PKs by conducting a meta-analysis and developing a pooled population PK model based on data from healthy subjects and hypertensive patients.
Methods: Relevant literature was identified by a systematic approach.

This study investigates the impact of supercritical antisolvent (SAS) process parameters on the particle formation of telmisartan, a poorly water-soluble drug. A fractional factorial design was employed to examine the influence of the SAS process parameters, including solvent ratio, drug solution concentration, temperature, pressure, injection rate of drug solution, and CO₂ flow rate, on particle formation. Solid-state characterizations of the SAS process particles using XRD and FT-IR confirmed their amorphous nature.

The 2024 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections featured new and impactful findings about neuropsychiatric complications in people with HIV and other infections. Reports included new evidence from low- and middleincome countries, HIV persistence in the central nervous system, aging-related complications (including cerebrovascular disease), additional data relevant to pathogenesis, and therapeutics. Also included were new evidence of active HIV RNA transcription in cells from cerebrospinal fluid and the brain during virally suppressive antiretroviral therapy as well as links between neuropsychiatric complications or brain imaging findings in people with HIV and a) carotid artery inflammation and cerebrovascular disease, b) Alzheimer's disease genetic risk, c) social determinants of health, including exposure to pollution, and d) epigenetic aging.

Semen cryopreservation is essential for preserving genetic resources and enabling artificial insemination in poultry breeding. However, avian sperm is known to experience detrimental changes during the freezing process. Telmisartan, an angiotensin-II receptor antagonist recognized for its antioxidant properties and ability to activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), was hypothesized to improve post-thaw semen quality by enhancing mitochondrial function and providing antioxidant protection to sperm.
