Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) immunotherapy for bladder cancer rarely leads to disseminated BCG infections, most of which occur early after BCG instillations or in immunocompromised patients. We report late-onset disseminated BCG infection after intravesical BCG immunotherapy in a non-immunocompromised patient. A 78-year-old non-immunocompromised man was admitted with fever and hepatosplenomegaly.

Persistent oxidative stress following bone defects significantly impedes the repair of bone tissue. Designing an antioxidative hydrogel with a suitable mechanical strength can help alter the local microenvironment and promote bone defect healing. In this work, α-lipoic acid (LA), a natural antioxidant small molecule, was chemically cross-linked with lipoic acid-functionalized poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG, = 6k or 10k) in sodium bicarbonate solution, to prepare LA-PEG hydrogels (LP, = 6k or 10k).

Unlabelled: Peri-implantitis (PI) is an inflammatory disease that affects supportive tissues around dental implants, and its progression eventually leads to bone loss and implant failure. However, PI effects may be different based on the presence or absence of adjacent teeth.
Objective: To investigate the differences in bone loss and inflammation between implants placed adjacent to a tooth or edentulous area in a ligature-induced PI model.

Background: Open and crushed forearm injury is a complex and rare injury affecting the upper extremity. It results in damage to various structures, including bones, soft tissues, and neurovascular bundles, ultimately leading to functional impairment. Typically, these injuries occur owing to high-energy trauma.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the osseointegration properties of titanium bone implants coated with carob-mediated calcium hydroxide nanoparticles biomechanically, radiographically, and histologically on rabbit tibias.
Material And Methods: Forty coated and forty uncoated titanium alloy bone implants were inserted into 20 New Zealand rabbits; each tibia received 2 implants. The rabbits were sacrificed after 4 or 8 weeks, and samples were retrieved for biomechanical evaluation through removal torque test to assess the bond between implant and bone, radiographic evaluation through microcomputed tomography analysis to compare the bone-to-implant contact percentage and bone volume of the peri-implant area, scanning electron microscopic and histologic evaluation through hematoxylin and eosin stain.
