Immobilized lipase B from Candida antarctica (Novozyme 435) catalyzed the regioselective formation of ester bonds between organosilicon carboxylic diacids and a C1-O-alkylated sugar under mild reaction conditions (i.e., low temperature, neutral pH, solventless). Specifically, the acid-functionalized organosilicones reacted with the primary hydroxyl group at the C6 position of alpha,beta-ethyl glucoside during the regioselective esterification. The pure organosilicon-sugar conjugates were prepared in a one-step reaction without protection-deprotection steps and without activation of the acid groups with the integrity of the siloxane bonds. We retrospectively investigated the mid-term outcomes of arthroplasty using the AVANTA silicone implant for thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints with boutonniere deformity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This study involved 36 thumbs of 33 RA patients with a mean follow-up period of 5.1 years (range, 2.

Background: Prenatal exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is associated with adverse health effects in children. Valid exposure assessment methods with accurate spatial and temporal resolution across pregnancy is a critical need for advancing environmental health studies.
Objective: The objective of this study was to quantify maternal PAH exposure in pregnant women residing in McAllen, Texas where the prematurity rate and childhood asthma prevalence rates are high.

Chewable gel tablets are an underdeveloped subject, even though there are many simple chewable tablets and gummy candies in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Chewable gel tablets are not as sweet, they can have an active substance, pharmacological effect, and a value of nutrition. The aim of this study was to prepare gelatin-based chewable tablets with as a preservative and to determine the shelf-life variability depending on storage conditions, and to evaluate texture changes.
