Three new water-soluble dppz derivatives are reported, one of which binds to DNA with an affinity comparable to any mononuclear metal complex and also displays a high selectivity for GC sites.

The flow through the grit chamber is non-biochemically treated wastewater, which contains microorganisms mainly from the source of wastewater generation. There are limited reports on aerosol particles generated by grit chambers compared with those produced by biochemical treatment tanks. This study analyzed the fugitive characteristics of aerosol particles produced in grit chambers at nine wastewater treatment plants in three regions of China.

These herbicides give rise to a number of key metabolites, with 3-methyl phosphinicopropionic acid (MPPA), -acetyl glufosinate (-acetyl GLUF), aminomethyl phosphonic acid (AMPA), -acetyl aminomethyl phosphonic acid (-acetyl AMPA), -acetyl glyphosate (-acetyl GLY), -methyl glyphosate (-methyl GLY) as the major metabolites obtained from GLUF and GLY. Extensive use of these herbicides may lead to their increased presence in the environment, especially aquatic ecosystems.

We investigate the effects of water-processable celluloses on the charge-transport properties in the conducting polymer composites and their solid-state organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs). Water-soluble methyl cellulose (MC) and water-dispersible cellulose nanofiber (CNF) are blended with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) in solution and used as a conductive channel. Both cellulose-PEDOT:PSS composites show fibrillar structures in thin films with respective dimensions of cellulose.

Water-soluble and biocompatible protein carbon dots (P-CDs) were simply prepared from egg white by a rapid one-step neutralization heat reaction. Unexpectedly, the thus-fabricated P-CDs could present excitation-dependent tunable fluorescence that could be quenched specifically by Fe and Fe ions with obvious color changes. A high-throughput fluorimetric platform was thereby developed by coating the P-CDs onto a capillary array for detection of total iron ions in fish blood samples, with a linear concentration range of 0.

A peptide segment that is 10 residues long at the C-terminal (CT) region of Cx43 is known to be involved in interactions, both with the Cx43 protein itself and with other proteins, that result in hemichannel (HC) activity regulation. Previously reported mimetic peptides based on this region (, , ) have been revealed to be promising therapeutic agents in the context of cardiovascular diseases. In this work, novel approaches, such as C- and N-terminal modification and cyclization, to improve the proteolytic stability and bioavailability of the peptide are presented.
