Objective: To observe the short- and mid-term effects of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (AMI) complicated by heart failure and/or cardiogenic shock .

Methods: Altogether 90 patients with AMI were recruited, of whom 58 were treated by PCI, 20 by thrombolytic therapy, and the other received general treatment without reperfusion therapy. The length of hospital stay, major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were compared between PCI and thrombolysis groups. The relationship between the patency time of the infarct-related artery (IRA), thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) grade after PCI and prognosis were analyzed in PCI group.

Results: The patency rate of IRA was significantly improved in patients receiving PCI therapy in comparison by those with thrombolytic therapy (98.3% vs 65.0%, P<0.01), and the LVEF was also higher in PCI group with lower mortality (6.9% vs 25.0%, P<0.05) during in-hospital and follow-up period.

Conclusion: PCI can be a more effective therapy than thrombolytic therapy in the treatment of ST-segment elevation AMI accompanied with heart failure and/or cardiogenic shock.

Cardiomyocytes (CMs) lost during ischemic cardiac injury cannot be replaced due to their limited proliferative capacity. Calcium is an important signal transducer that regulates key cellular processes, but its role in regulating CM proliferation is incompletely understood. Here we show a robust pathway for new calcium signaling-based cardiac regenerative strategies.

MAFLD as a predictor of adverse cardiovascular events among CHD patients with LDL-C<1.8 mmol/L.

Nutr Metab Cardiovasc Dis

November 2024

Department of Cardiology and Institute of Vascular Medicine, Peking University Third Hospital, Beijing, China; Key Laboratory of Molecular Cardiovascular Science, Ministry of Education, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Patients receiving statin therapy still suffer from adverse cardiovascular events. Metabolic (dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a newly proposed concept that shares common metabolic risk factors with cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to investigate the association between MAFLD and adverse cardiovascular outcomes in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients with LDL-C<1.

From Escalate to Elevate: A New Paradigm for Comprehensive Cardiogenic Shock Management.

Patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) present with critical hemodynamic compromise with low cardiac output (CO) resulting in end-organ dysfunction. Prognosis is closely related to the severity of shock and treatment of patients with CS is resource intensive. In this review, we consider the current treatment paradigms alongside the evidence that underpins them.

The possibility of using an oxygen-nitrous oxide mixture for prolonged hypothermic preservation of rat heart for 24 hours was investigated. A comparative analysis of restoration of functional activity of hearts in the groups of 24-hour preservation at +4°C with different gases (O, N) and gas mixtures (CO+O, NO+O, N+O, NO+N) was carried out. It was shown that the presence of oxygen in the gas mixture was the key factor for heart preservation.

Does Rose angina in midlife women matter? Further evidence from the Royal College of General Practitioners' Oral Contraception Study.

Academic Primary Care, Institute of Applied Health Sciences, University of Aberdeen, Polwarth Building, Foresterhill, Aberdeen AB25 2ZD, UK. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Globally, ischaemic heart disease (IHD) is a leading cause of death among women; however, disparities remain in the diagnosis and treatment of IHD between females and males. There is limited evidence about mortality risks among women with symptoms of IHD who remain undiagnosed. We re-examined the mortality risks in midlife women who completed the Rose Angina Questionnaire, among a subset of the Royal College of General Practitioners' Oral Contraception Study cohort.
