Background: Absent or reversed end-diastolic flow velocity (ARED) in the umbilical arteries is typically associated with severe intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), although there may be other causes, such as aneuploidy.

Case: A healthy 30-year-old gravida 2, para 0 woman with an uneventful pregnancy and normal prenatal screening test results presented with sudden cessation of fetal movement at 26 weeks' gestation. Ultrasound demonstrated unexplained ARED with normal fetal growth and normal amniotic fluid volume. The fetus died during transfer to the labour and delivery unit. The cause of fetal demise was initially assumed to be feto-maternal hemorrhage, but postmortem examination revealed non-compaction of the ventricular myocardium.

Conclusion: Intrinsic myocardial disease should be considered in the differential diagnosis when ARED is discovered in the umbilical arteries, especially when fetal growth is normal. Postmortem examination should be performed even if a prior 18- to 20-week anatomical ultrasound has been reported as normal.

L-theanine promotes angiogenesis in limb ischemic mice by modulating NRP1/VEGFR2 signaling.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD), primarily caused by atherosclerosis, leads to the narrowing or blockage of arteries that supply blood to the limbs. This study explores the pro-angiogenic effects of L-theanine and its underlying mechanisms in a mouse model of hindlimb ischemia (HLI). To evaluate L-theanine's pro-angiogenic effects, human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were subjected to tube formation, migration, sprouting, and proliferation assays.

Balloon atrioseptostomy for transposition of the great arteries in Europe: characteristics and outcomes.

Rev Esp Cardiol (Engl Ed)

January 2025

Pediatric Cardiology Department, M3C National reference center, Hospital Necker- Enfants Malades, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, University Paris Cité, Paris, France.

Introduction And Objectives: Balloon atrial septostomy (BAS) improves oxygenation in neonates with transposition of the great arteries (TGA) and restrictive foramen ovale. Currently, there is a global shortage of dedicated BAS catheters, while new unmarked catheters have recently become available at some European centers. This study aimed to characterize BAS outcomes using the currently available BAS catheters in Europe.

Umbilical Artery Thrombosis Masquerading as Single Umbilical Artery in a Stillbirth.

Diagnostics (Basel)

Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur 56000, Malaysia.

Umbilical artery thrombosis (UAT) masquerading as a single umbilical artery (SUA) is a rare but critical diagnostic challenge in prenatal care. We described a case of a 22-year-old primigravida with an uneventful obstetric history who presented with reduced fetal movements at 22 weeks of gestation. Ultrasound showed no gross fetal structural anomalies while umbilical artery Doppler flow imaging revealed an isolated SUA.

Bisphenol S induced endothelial dysfunction via mitochondrial pathway in the vascular endothelial cells, and detoxification effect of albumin binding.

As a replacement of bisphenol A, bisphenol S (BPS) is commonly used in the wrappers and food containers of daily life. Epidemiological studies demonstrate a close link between BPS exposure and vascular diseases, where the biological activities of BPS remain scarcely known. Herein, the effects of BPS on endothelial function as well as the underlying mechanism were investigated in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and mouse arteries.

Objective: To establish a new technique to easily identify the fetal cervix-uterus complex in normal female fetuses from 20 to 40 weeks of gestation.

Material And Methods: The study was performed in routine examination in normal fetuses by two observers. Twenty-five consecutive cases per gestational week were assessed between 20 and 40 weeks.
