We report on the first determination of the absolute B(E2;0+(1)-->2+(1)) excitation strength in the N=Z nucleus 72Kr. 72Kr is the heaviest N=Z nucleus for which this quantity has been measured and provides a benchmark in a region of the nuclear chart dominated by rapidly changing deformations and shapes mediated by the interplay of strongly oblate and prolate-driving orbitals. The deduced quadrupole deformation strength is in agreement with a variety of self-consistent models that predict an oblate shape for the ground state of 72Kr. Large-scale shell-model Monte Carlo calculations reproduce the experimental B(E2) value and link the result to the occupation of the deformation-driving g9/2 orbit.

The Bambara groundnut is the indigenous legume in the southern part of Thailand. It contains a seed coat rich in polyphenols, which can serve as natural antimicrobial agents. The extracts from red and white seed coats of Bambara groundnuts, namely RSC and WSC, respectively, were prepared using an ultrasound-assisted extraction process.

Acute traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with substantial abnormalities in lipid biology, including changes in the structural lipids that are present in the myelin in the brain. We investigated the relationship between traumatic microstructural changes in white matter from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and quantitative lipidomic changes from blood serum. The study cohort included 103 patients from the Collaborative European NeuroTrauma Effectiveness Research in TBI (CENTER-TBI) study.

There have been decades of interest in using the ultrasonic radiation pressure of standing waves to deform nearly spherical objects. An analytical approach sometimes associated with the present author involves approximating projections of the radiation pressure on spheres small in comparison with the wavelength and calculating the response to that projection. In 1981, for small fluid spheres, some terms in the quadrupole projection were published along with the dependence on the size and location of the sphere.

The hexadecapole deformation (β_{4}) of the ^{238}U nucleus has not been determined because its effect is overwhelmed by those from the nucleus' large quadrupole deformation (β_{2}) in nuclear electric transition measurements. In this Letter, we identify the nonlinear response of the hexadecapole anisotropy to ellipticity in relativistic U+U collisions that is solely sensitive to β_{4} and insensitive to β_{2}. We demonstrate this by state-of-the-art hydrodynamic calculations and discuss the prospects of discovering the β_{4} of ^{238}U in heavy-ion data at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.

Key Laboratory of Environment and Health, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Environmental Protection, and State Key Laboratory of Environmental Health, School of Public Health, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei 430030, China. Electronic address:

Background: Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) has been found to be associated with growth and developmental abnormalities in children. However, the potential mechanisms by which exposure to EDCs during pregnancy increases the risk of obesity in children remain unclear.

Objective: We aimed to explore associations between prenatal EDC exposure and the body mass index (BMI) of children at age two, and to further explore the potential impact of DNA methylation (DNAm).
