Aims: Sarcoendoplasmic reticulum Ca-ATPase 2 (SERCA2), encoded by ATP2A2, is a key protein involved in intracellular Ca homeostasis. The SERCA2a isoform is predominantly expressed in cardiomyocytes and type I myofibres. Variants in this gene are related to Darier disease, an autosomal dominant dermatologic disorder, but have never been linked to myopathy.

Neurodegenerative diseases are a pathologically, clinically and genetically diverse group of diseases characterised by selective dysfunction, loss of synaptic connectivity and neurodegeneration, and are associated with the deposition of misfolded proteins in neurons and/or glia. Molecular studies have highlighted the role of conformationally altered proteins in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases and have paved the way for developing disease-specific biomarkers that capture and differentiate the main type/s of protein abnormality responsible for neurodegenerative diseases, some of which are currently used in clinical practice. These proteins follow sequential patterns of anatomical involvement and disease spread in the brain and may also be detected in peripheral organs.

The role of periostin (POSTN) in remodeling the microenvironment surrounding solid tumors and its effect on the tumor cells in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) have not yet been fully understood. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between POSTN expression (in tumor cells [NSCLC cells] and the tumor stroma) and pro-angiogenic factors (CD31, CD34, CD105, and VEGF-A) and microvascular density (MVD) in NSCLC. In addition, these associations were analyzed in individual histological subtypes of NSCLC (SCC, AC, and LCC) and their correlations with clinicopathological factors and prognosis were examined.

Aims: Phyllodes tumours (PTs) are relatively common fibroepithelial tumours comprising epithelial and stromal component. Usually, PTs show a spindle cell morphology with a fibroblast phenotype, while some tumour cells exhibit epithelioid morphological features and sarcomatoid transformation. However, the molecular characteristics of this morphology subset remain unclear.

Among autophagic-related proteins, p62/SQSTM1/Sequestosome-1 represents a relevant actor in cellular proliferation and neoplastic growth. Although, recently, p62 expression has been analyzed in different neurodegenerative and glial neoplastic diseases, no available information have been reported in meningiomas, which have an high epidemiological relevance being the second most common category of intracranial tumors after gliomas. Generally meningiomas have a benign behavior, but their recurrence is not uncommon mainly when atypical or anaplastic varieties occur.
