Published: July 2005

Objective: To develop a HPLC assay for the determination of metformin hydrochloride-related substances.

Methods: The separation was performed on SHIMADZU VP-ODS (250 4.6 mm, 5 microm) column. The mobile phase of dicyandiamide was composed of methyl alcohol-1 mmol x L(-1) sodium dodecylsulfate in 10 mmol x L(-1) phosphate salt solution (60:40) (pH=5.5). The mobile phase of other related substances was composed of methyl alcohol-1 mmol x L(-1) sodium dodecysulfate in 10 mmol x L(-1) phosphate salt solution (55:45)(pH=5.5). The detection wavelength was 232 nm, and the running speed was 0.8 ml min(-1) at room temperature.

Result: Good resolution of dicyandiamide and main peak was obtained. The test results were reproducible.

Conclusion: The method is simple, rapid and suitable for the determination of dicyandiamide and other metformin hydrochloride-related substances.

Background: Immobilized enzyme possessing both high activity and good selectivity is important in practice. In this study, Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) was immobilized onto the macroporous resin ADS-17 for triacylglycerol (TAG) synthesis through esterification of oleic acid and glycerol. The reaction conditions were optimized by single-factor study and orthogonal test, and the reusability of the immobilized CALB (CALB@ADS-17) was evaluated.

Aim: To describe the effects of Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) in patients with familial partial lipodystrophy (FPLD) assessed in a real-life setting in a national reference network.

Patients And Methods: We retrospectively collected clinical and metabolic parameters in patients with FPLD in the French lipodystrophy reference network, who initiated GLP-1RA. Data were recorded before, at one-year (12 ± 6 months) and at the latest follow-up on GLP-1RA therapy (≥18 months).

Research Focus Area for Chemical Resource Beneficiation, Catalysis and Synthesis Research Group, North-West University, 11 Hoffman Street, Potchefstroom 2522, South Africa.

This study investigates the surfactant properties and efficiency of linear and Guerbet-type amino acid surfactants. Utilizing a Wilhelmy plate method, we assessed the colloidal efficiency of these surfactants, with the lowest observed critical micelle concentration at 0.046 mmol L, significantly reducing surface tension to as low as 25.

The fermentation process in alcoholic beverage production converts sugars into ethanol and CO, releasing significant amounts of greenhouse gases. Here, Cupriavidus necator DSM 545 was grown autotrophically using gas derived from alcoholic fermentation, using a fed-batch bottle system. Nutrient starvation was applied to induce intracellular accumulation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB), a bioplastic polymer, for bioconversion of CO-rich waste gas into PHB.
