Preparation of chiral 2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodithiine and methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodithiine derivatives with known absolute configurations from the easily accessible chiral synthons benzyl 4-O-trifloxy-2,3-anhydro-beta-L-ribopyranoside and benzyl 4-O-trifloxy-2,3-anhydro-alpha-D-ribopyranoside is described. These compounds showed significant in vitro toxicity of the bloodstream form of Trypanosoma brucei with an IC50 of 11 microM. The parasites' energy metabolism and consumption of oxygen were found to be affected during incubation.

Molecular dynamics work on thermal conductivity of SiGe nanotubes.

J Mol Model

January 2025

School of Mechanics and Safety Engineering, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, 450001, People's Republic of China.

Context: SiGe nanotubes (SiGeNTs) hold significant promise for applications in nanosolar cells, optoelectronic systems, and interconnects, where thermal conductivity is critical to performance. This study investigates the effects of length, diameter, temperature, and axial strain on the thermal conductivity of armchair and zigzag SiGeNTs through molecular dynamics simulations. Results indicate that thermal conductivity increases with sample length due to ballistic heat transport and decreases with temperature as phonon scattering intensifies.

A pair of axially chiral thermally activated delayed fluorescent (TADF) enantiomers, R-TCBN-ImEtPF6 and S-TCBN-ImEtPF6, with intrinsic ionic characteristics were efficiently synthesized by introducing imidazolium hexafluorophosphate to chiral TADF unit. The TADF imidazolium salts exhibited a high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of up to 92%, a small singlet-triplet energy gap (∆EST) of 0.04 eV, as well as reversible redox properties.

Decision Trees for the Recognition of Metal-Centered Chirality in Coordination Complexes.

J Comput Chem

January 2025

Departamento de Química Fundamental, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil.

While established guidelines exist for chirality in tetrahedral molecules, there is a notable absence of clear rules for recognizing metal-centered chirality in higher-coordination complexes. We develop decision trees to assess the likelihood of chirality-at-metal in coordination complexes with coordination numbers 4-9 with mono and bidentate ligands. Using binary decision rules based on shape, ligand type, and quantity, the trees classify complexes as chiral or achiral.

Aiming at the construction of novel platforms with excellent performances in both circularly polarized photoluminescence (CP-PL) and electrochemiluminescence (CP-ECL), a new family of pyrenophanes with rigidly locked pyrene dimers and varied bridges has been designed and synthesized. Attributed to densely packed pyrene excimers, the resultant pyrenophanes revealed tunable bridge-dependent emission behaviors, as investigated by femtosecond time-resolved transient absorption spectroscopy. More importantly, all these planar chiral pyrenophanes display strong CP-PL with large dissymmetry factor (gPL) values up to 0.

Background And Aims: This article explores antibiotic resistance as a critical public health issue in Bangladesh, emphasizing its growing threat to the nation's healthcare system. As a developing country, Bangladesh faces unique challenges in managing this crisis, with antibiotic resistance posing significant risks due to its multidimensional problems to both individual health and the broader population.

Methods: We searched for relevant pieces of literature that discuss the antibiotic resistance problem both from a global and national perspective.
