Background: Pneumothorax is a medical emergency caused by the abnormal accumulation of air in the pleural space-the potential space between the lungs and chest wall. On 2D chest radiographs, pneumothorax occurs within the thoracic cavity and outside of the mediastinum, and we refer to this area as "lung + space." While deep learning (DL) has increasingly been utilized to segment pneumothorax lesions in chest radiographs, many existing DL models employ an end-to-end approach.

Pulmonary alveolar microlithiasis (PAM) is a rare lung disorder characterized by calcium phosphate microliths in the alveolar spaces. Autosomal recessive mutations on the SLC34A2 gene lead to altered type IIb sodium phosphate cotransporter in alveolar type-II cells of the lung, thus resulting in aggregations of microliths in the alveoli. To date, more than 1000 cases have been reviewed by expert pulmonary clinicians.

Introduction/purpose: Nusinersen, the first treatment approved for all spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) types, is administered intrathecally through lumbar puncture. We used ultrasound assistance or a landmark-based technique to access the lumbar intrathecal space in adult SMA patients. This study aimed to evaluate the technical success and adverse events (AEs) in such patients using either technique over a long observation period.

Basophilic granulocytes, containing and releasing histamine after a specific allergy stimulation, are directly involved in IgE-mediated allergic reactions. CD63 is a transmembrane protein of secretory lysosomes of basophils and its upregulation is related with the release of histamine to the extracellular space during IgE-mediated allergic reactions. Basophil activation test (BAT) measures the activation of circulating basophils upon the stimulation of living blood cells with specific allergens.
