Scabies is an enormous global public health problem and one of the World Health Organization's 20 most neglected tropical diseases. Scabies affects all groups with children and elderly, particularly in resource scarce countries, among the most vulnerable in terms of prevalence, morbidity, and preventable sequalae. The medical community now recognizes the preventable life-threatening secondary complications attributable to scabies.

Scabies is a highly infectious parasitic skin disease, The most common lesions are solid and 2-3 mm in diameter (papules). Very few cases will develop into nodular scabies, and microscopy is frequently negative in patients with clinically diagnosed nodular scabies. The accuracy of microscopy depends on the expertise of the operator, particularly in finding burrows and extracting the relevant material.

Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by , and it is always associated with an intense, unbearable, nocturnal deteriorating itch. Its presentations include classic burrows, erythema, pruritic papules, pustules, vesicles, and inflammatory nodules, with diffuse or localized distribution on the finger webs, wrist flexors, elbows, axillae, buttocks, genitalia, and breasts. Nodular scabies is an uncommon clinical variant of scabies.
