Background: Recent studies revealed an association between small kidney volume and progression of kidney dysfunction in particular settings such as kidney transplantation and transcatheter aortic valve implantation. We hypothesized that kidney volume was associated with the incidence of kidney-related adverse outcomes such as worsening renal function (WRF) in patients with acute heart failure (AHF).
Methods: This study was a single-center retrospective cohort study.

Background: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can cause life-threatening diseases in immunosuppressed patients. Some of the patients with connective tissue disease develop CMV infection, and approximately half of this group has been reported to have received pulsed-methylprednisolone (p-MPSL) therapy. This study aimed to identify predictors of the onset of CMV infection in patients receiving p-MPSL therapy for connective tissue disease.

Background: Care procedures for preterm infants can induce stress that may disrupt homeostasis, possibly altering cerebral perfusion or oxygenation. We evaluated the physiological and cerebral oxygenation changes during the routine care of very preterm infants.
Methods: We analyzed the changes in heart and respiratory rates and in systemic and regional cerebral oxygen saturation of 27 very preterm infants, defining three care periods of 5 min each: 30 min before care, 30 min during care, and 30 min after care.

: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of substrate - polycaprolactone (PCL)-based porous membrane modified with rosmarinic acid (RA), (PCL-RA) and to determine the optimal values of low field laser irradiation (LLLT) as stimulators of biological response of RAW 264.7 macrophages. : The porous polymer membrane was obtained by the phase inversion method, the addition of rosmarinic acid was 1%wt.

: The utilization of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) and Impella has been suggested as means of left ventricular unloading in veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) patients. This study aimed to assess the local hemodynamic alterations in VA-ECMO patients through simulation analyses. : In this study, a 0D-3D multiscale model was developed, wherein resistance conditions were employed to define the flow-pressure relationship.
