The equation of state of hard hyperspheres in four and five dimensions.

Published: July 2005

The equation of state of hard hyperspheres in four and five dimensions is calculated from the value of the pair correlation function at contact, as determined by Monte Carlo simulations. These results are compared to equations of state obtained by molecular dynamics and theoretical approaches. In all cases the agreement is excellent.

Impact of COVID-19 Public Health Measures on Antiretroviral Therapy Use Among Ugandans Living with HIV in Sero-Different Couples.

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) use and HIV suppression among people living with HIV (PLHIV) are critical for HIV control and prevention. Extreme restrictions on movement early during the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda may have impeded the ability to initiate and sustain access to and use of ART. From our stepped-wedge cluster-randomized trial of an integrated PrEP and ART intervention for HIV-serodifferent couples at 12 ART clinics in Uganda, we identified participants who enrolled and had a 6-month post-ART initiation viral load measured before the beginning of the first COVID-19 lockdown (Period 1), participants whose enrollment and 6-month viral load measurement straddled pre-COVID and COVID lockdown times (Period 2), and participants whose enrollment and 6-month viral load were quantified entirely during COVID-19 (Period 3).

A switching active disturbance rejection control (SADRC) strategy was proposed to solve the composite disturbance challenge arising from gap, LuGre friction, hydraulic spring force, and external load disturbance in the double closed-loop digital hydraulic cylinder position control system. Firstly, leveraging the established mathematical model of the double closed-loop digital hydraulic cylinder, the high-order state equation was derived. Subsequently, the high-order double closed-loop digital hydraulic cylinder control system was transformed into a second-order integral series control system using ADRC strategy.

An ODE-based swift and dynamic sewer airflow model.

Airflow models are powerful tools for ventilation design to achieve odour and corrosion mitigation in sewer networks. Currently, there lacks a model able to efficiently predict in-sewer dynamic airflows, as all available dynamic models with an acceptable accuracy are computationally demanding. In this study, a swift dynamic airflow model based on an ordinary differential equation (ODE) is derived by simplifying the one-dimensional Navier Stokes Equations (NSE), supported by the observation that the NSE solutions always display negligible spatial variations in air velocity when applied to a sewer conduit.

A magnetic vortex (MV) is one of the fundamental and topologically nontrivial spin textures in condensed matter physics. Magnetic vortices are usually the ground states in geometrically restricted ferromagnets with zero magnetocrystalline anisotropy. Magnetic vortices have recently been proposed for use in a variety of spintronics applications due to their resistance to thermal perturbations, flexibility in changing core polarity, simple patterning procedure, and potential uses in magnetic data storage with substantial density, sensors for the magnetic field, devices for logic operations, and other related fields.
