Published: August 2005

Osteotropic radiopharmaceutical uptake has been reported in a wide variety of benign and malignant soft tissue tumors. We present an unusual case of pancreaticoblastoma with mesenteric and omental metastases detected by bone scan in a 69-year-old man who presented with fever, weight loss, and renal insufficiency. Pancreaticoblastoma is a rare childhood tumor that may occur in adults, although only two cases of adults with metastatic disease have been described.

Mandibular Reconstruction With a Patient-Specific Implant Following Surgical Excision of an Acanthomatous Ameloblastoma in a Dog.

J Vet Dent

January 2025

Department of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery, Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, Part of Linnaeus Group, Swindon, UK.

Canine acanthomatous ameloblastoma (CAA) is an invasive benign epithelial odontogenic tumour most commonly affecting the mandible of large breed dogs. To the author's knowledge, this report describes the first computer-aided design patient-specific implant (PSI) that has been placed for a critical sized bone defect in mandibular reconstruction of a dog in the UK. The aim was to restore mandibular stability using a regenerative approach combining a titanium locking plate and compression-resistant matrix infused with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) to bridge the 85 mm mandibular defect created by a segmental mandibulectomy.

Rationale: Patients with extensive small cell lung cancer (SCLC) generally have a dismal survival rate and are conventionally treated with chemotherapy. This study aimed to explore an alternative treatment approach by combining traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Patient Concerns: A 68-year-old male was diagnosed with extensive-stage SCLC.

Objectives Of The Study: (1) To evaluate the effect of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) with bone marrow aspirate on regenerative capacity in patients undergoing iliac bone grafting for secondary alveolar bone grafting. (2) and to compare it with group 2 where only bone marrow aspirate was used along with iliac bone graft in secondary alveolar bone grafting.

Materials And Methods: A prospective study on patients with cleft alveolus, requiring bone grafting and reporting to our unit from October 2018 to October 2020 was included in this study.

Jansen metaphyseal chondrodysplasia (JMC) is an ultra-rare disorder caused by constitutive activation of parathyroid hormone type 1 receptor (PTH1R). We sought to characterize the craniofacial phenotype of patients with the disease. Six patients with genetically confirmed JMC underwent comprehensive craniofacial phenotyping revealing a distinct facial appearance that prompted a cephalometric analysis demonstrating a pattern of mandibular retrognathia.
