Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of reduced uteroplacental perfusion pressure on plasma leptin and placental leptin receptor expression in rats that develop hypertension in the third trimester of pregnancy.
Study Design: The ovarian arteries and abdominal aortae of pregnant Sprague-Dawley rats (n=9) were constricted surgically on day 14 of gestation and were matched with sham controls. Systolic blood pressure and weight were measured biweekly. Maternal plasma leptin levels, placental leptin receptor abundance, fetal number, fetal weight, and placental weight were determined.
Results: Reductions in perfusion pressure induced a significant decrease in maternal plasma leptin. Maternal systolic blood pressure and leptin receptor protein abundance was increased in the experimental group. Litter size and fetal and placental weight were significantly decreased in response to reduced perfusion pressure.
Conclusion: Reduced uteroplacental perfusion pressure reduces litter size, fetal and placental weights, and maternal plasma leptin levels and increases placental expression of leptin receptors.

Little is known about how blood free amino acids (FAAs) change in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). This study aims to identify the imbalance of FAAs in MASLD and explore its correction as a potential therapeutic target. We analyzed plasma FAAs data from 23,036 individuals with steatosis information from a biobank in Japan, and 310 patients with MASLD were enrolled.

The prevalence of noncommunicable inflammatory disease is increasing in modern urban societies, posing significant challenges to public health. Novel prevention and therapeutic strategies are needed to effectively deal with this issue. One promising approach is leveraging microorganisms such as Mycobacterium vaccae ATCC 15483, known for its anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory, and stress-resilience properties.

Objective: This study aimed to analyze the correlation of adiponectin (APN) and leptin (LEP), reproductive endocrine hormones with insulin resistance (IR) in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients with normal body mass index (BMI).
Methods: Totally 160 PCOS patients were categorized into the Normal BMI (BMI: 18.5-25 kg/m, = 62) and High BMI (BMI > 25 kg/m, = 98) groups.

The relationship of non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) levels with obesity and obesity-related alterations shows age-dependent variability in children. Leptin, with an important role in energy homeostasis and lipid metabolism, may be related to NEFA levels throughout the first decades of life. This cross-sectional study aims to analyse plasma NEFA levels in children of different ages and evaluate the relationship of leptin with NEFA levels depending on age.

A large number of studies have reported the relationships between leptin levels and diabetes or obesity. However, the results are still controversial, and no consensus has been reached. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to collect data from various databases to perform a meta-analysis and address the inconsistencies in these studies.
